Film Club: Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Join us for the next Film Club meeting on Tuesday September 16 at 7pm. We will be discussing the selected film, Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) starring Noémie Merlant as Marianne and Adèle Haenel as Héloïse. The film is a French romantic drama written and directed by Céline Sciamma.

Film premise—France, 1770. Marianne, a painter, is commissioned to do the wedding portrait of Héloïse, a young woman who has just left the convent. Héloïse is a reluctant bride to be and Marianne must paint her without her knowing. She observes her by day, to paint her secretly.

This session’s conversation will be led by Beth on topics from the film such as theme, style, genre and more!

The Yellow Studio Film Club is a group of women who are interested in watching and discussing female-centric stories that have been on the big screen. Each month, a different film will be chosen – selections will vary in terms of genre and time period but will always involve a female-centric theme and/or be written and/or directed by a woman. Once a month the group will meet to discuss the various aspects of the chosen film. Meetings will be informal and open to any YS Member who has a passion, interest and/or curiosity about movies.
