DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nWriters’ Salon Theme: Last Light \nCo-hosted by Jessica Rao & Ines Rodrigues \nAs the season changes\, so does the light. Our imagination follows\, the end of longer days\, the beginning of magical times. Beginning\, ending\, continuing. Light and dark\, day and night\, autumn turns to winter. What stories come with that? \nDo you have a story about twilight? Changing light? Final embers or seeds of hope? We want to read it. \nBroad interpretations\, as well as all genres welcome — fiction\, non-fiction\, short play\, poetry. \nSubmissions accepted from September 1 to September 22.  \nFive pieces will be selected from the first twenty-five submissions received by September 22. The winners will read their work at the Writers’ Salon at Yellow Studio\, in person\, on Wednesday\, October 29 at 7pm. \n  \nSubmission Guidelines:  \nProse:  no longer than 700 words\, double spaced\, 12-point font\, and in a Word or PDF document. Work at all stages of development is welcome\, from in-progress to published pieces. \nPoetry: maximum 3 pages. \n\nEligibility Criteria: Submitting writers must identify as women. Submitting writers must be 18+.\n \nWe look forward to reading your submission. She is seeking representation for her debut novel Tuesday Night Special. \n  \nAbout Ines Rodrigues \nInes Rodrigues is an author and teacher\, who published her first novel\, Days of Bossa Nova\, in 2017.  Her short fiction appears in The Plentitudes Literary Journal\, Columbia Anthology\, Tint Journal\, and 650-Writers Read. Her translation work was published in the Word for Word Anthology/2023\, and she was the recipient of the Word for Word Translation Grant from Columbia University. She’s a creative writing instructor at the Writing Institute/Sarah Lawrence College\, Hugo House\, and Bronxville Adult School. Rodrigues was a writer-in-residence at Yellow Studio from November/2024 through February/2025. She is currently working on her second novel.

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nDiscover the joy of transforming recycled materials into wearable art in this creative bead making workshop\, led by artist and maker Rebecca Rivard. \nRebecca’s love for crafting started young\, with a curiosity for creative projects that carried into her early work as Arts Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Boston\, where she taught art to children of all ages. Today\, in her own practice\, she’s passionate about finding ways to repurpose materials and give them vibrant second lives. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, you’ll turn colorful strips of recycled magazine paper into unique\, one-of-a-kind beads. Using simple tools like wooden skewers and sealing with nail polish or fast-drying acrylic medium\, you’ll create your own stackable bracelets or layered necklaces\, an easy-to-learn process with endless creative possibilities. \nTogether\, we’ll explore: \n\nHow to cut and shape paper for different bead styles\nRolling and sealing methods\nTips for color combinations and design\nIdeas for finishing jewelry pieces of all lengths\n\nWhether you’re new to crafting or looking for a spark of inspiration\, this workshop is a fun and meaningful way to slow down\, connect\, and create. \nAll materials provided. No experience necessary. \nSpace is limited to 10 Attendees. \n  \n \nAbout Rebecca Rivard \nRebecca Rivard creates vibrant\, multi-layered abstractions that explore what lies beneath visible surfaces\, using intricate linear patterns to transform moments of meditation and raw emotion into visual narratives. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (BFA 1998)\, she expanded her artistic practice through music composition studies at Juilliard’s Evening Division (2017-2019). Rivard revitalized her visual art career through a residency at Yellow Studio. Her work has garnered Special Recognition at Carriage Barn Art Center’s All Member Show (2024) and exhibitions at The Gallery at Yellow Studio\, Bedford Art Show\, Katonah Library\, Northern Westchester Hospital\, Bethany Arts Community\, and Bedford Books. An active leader in Westchester’s artistic community\, Rivard serves on the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association board and teaches workshops at Yellow Studio\, emphasizing the transformative power of process-based art. \n
