Amid all that movement\, there is a quieter invitation too: to return to ourselves. To pause\, feel our feet beneath us\, take a deeper breath\, and remember that we don’t have to meet the energy of a new season by rushing into it. \nThis month\, we’ll explore The Art of Returning to Yourself through gentle mindfulness\, reflection\, grounding breathing practices\, and guided meditation. Like a painting created brushstroke by brushstroke\, a song composed note by note\, or a story written word by word\, a grounded life is shaped through small moments of presence—one breath\, one pause\, one return at a time. We’ll practice simple ways to calm the nervous system and reconnect with ourselves as we move into the months ahead. Because the practice isn’t about never losing our center. The chaos of our world challenges us constantly. It’s about remembering the way back. A dinner party that would make Gatsby envious? A party can be a bash for five hundred people\, an intimate dinner for two\, or a solitary dance in the living room. Parties bring together those we love and those we hate\, or maybe a stranger who can change your life in one night. Prior to that\, she was the Arts and Entertainment Editor at The Scarsdale Inquirer. Banerjee’s debut novel\, “Murder at Mah Jongg\,” will be released in the fall of 2026. She splits her time between Boca Raton\, Florida and New York City. \nAbout Lynn Edelson \nLynn Edelson has been writing memoir for more than fifteen years. \nHer narrative essays have appeared in the NYC Listen To Your Mother show\, Writers Read/Read650\, Carnegie Hall’s Voices of Hope Festival\, HerStry blog\, Every Family’s Got One\, and The Westchester Review. She was also a finalist for the 2023 Eunice Williams Nonfiction Prize. \nLynn is the mother of two grown sons. She lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband and is currently working on a collection of her essays. \nAbout Lindsay Gael\nLindsay Gael is a writer interested in stories about women. She lives with her family north of New York City. \nAbout Christine Carpenter\nChristine Carpenter has been writing since she could hold a pen\, but the birth of her first child awakened her to the power of the written word. After her little boy arrived during the height of COVID\, she left a career of more than a decade in the fashion industry and decided to pursue her earliest passion––writing. \nToday\, Christine is a contributing editor and writer for The Bump\, an online parenting platform where she writes eCommerce content for new and expectant parents. Her personal work often explores motherhood\, identity\, relationships\, and the ways we change through the lives we’re building. She is drawn to honest\, reflective storytelling and to writing about the moments that shape us\, even when we don’t fully understand them until later. \nChristine lives in New York and is a mom to two little boys. She continues to write personal essays alongside her editorial work. \nAbout Jessica Rao\nJessica Rao is the author of the forthcoming novel Nowhere to Go but Everywhere (Ten 16 Press\, September 2026). She’s also an award-winning journalist and media professional who has held contributor roles at CNBC and Gannett and overseen communications for Fortune 500 companies. \nIn addition to her media career\, Jessica is the Vice President of the White Plains Library Foundation Board and she hosts and produces literary events. \nAbout Ines Rodrigues\nInes Rodrigues is an author and teacher\, who published her first novel\, Days of Bossa Nova\, in 2017.  Her short fiction appears in The Plentitudes Literary Journal\, Columbia Anthology\, Tint Journal\, and 650-Writers Read. Her translation work appears in the Word for Word Anthology/2023\, and ANMLY.org. She was the recipient of the Word for Word Translation Grant from Columbia University in 2023. SUMMARY:Pressed Botanical Design Workshop with Marguerite Alpert
DESCRIPTION:For all interested artists of nature: this workshop on Wednesday September 30 at 6pm is an opportunity to create a pressed botanical composition using your own previously pressed materials from our earlier workshop. For anyone who did not attend the pressing workshop\, Marguerite will provide a beautiful selection of pressed botanical specimens. Depending on each participant’s pace\, a design may be completed or well underway by the end of the session. \nSpace is limited to 10 participants.  \n  \nAbout Marguerite Alpert \nMy artwork transforms pressed and dried botanical materials into compositions that invite close observation. I deconstruct flowers into their smallest components – individual petals\, sepals\, and fragments and use these elements as building blocks for larger designs. Through this process\, I aim to present familiar natural materials in unexpected ways\, encouraging viewers to see them with fresh eyes.  \nViewers frequently mistake my botanical compositions for watercolor paintings or pen and ink drawings\, only to discover with delightful surprise that they are observing actual plant matter. This moment of revelation consistently draws people closer to examine the work more carefully\, a response that lies at the heart of my artistic intention.  \nMy practice centers on revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary\, highlighting the intricate details in nature that we often overlook. The transformation that occurs during the pressing and drying process is itself a form of artistic alchemy. Fresh flowers and leaves give up their three-dimensional form\, becoming flattened through the application of pressure and time. This metamorphosis reveals hidden structures: the delicate network of veins threading through petals becomes visible\, colors also shift and intensify in unexpected ways\, and textures emerge that were previously obscured by the plant’s fresh form.  \nMy work celebrates both the fragility and resilience of botanical life. My goal is to slow down the viewer’s gaze to foster a deeper appreciation for the complex beauty of nature that surrounds us every day.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Permission to Speak with Shelley Molad on Thursday\, October 15 at 6:30pm. In this workshop\, you will learn to calm your nerves whether you are giving a public reading\, an interview\, a presentation\, or speaking in front of a crowd. \n\nActor and director Shelley Molad will share techniques for easing anxiety and connecting with your audience through breathing exercises and voice work. She’ll also talk about emphasis\, humor and drama\, making your words count\, and using the audiences’ energy. \n\nWe’ll practice slowing down\, improving our enunciation\, and preparing without over-preparing through performance and play. We’ll also devote time to practicing together in a supportive space with material that is brought in\, improvised or written in the workshop.\n\nJoin us for a gentle and friendly workshop on honing your courageous voice.\n\nAbout Shelley Molad\nShelley Molad is an actor\, director\, writer\, theater educator and on-camera coach. Shelley has been working for the SAG Foundation for a decade\, managing entertainment industry events and casting workshops as well as filming actors in their New York On-Camera Lab. She privately coaches actors of all levels and also teaches On Camera Acting at the Westchester Collaborative Theater in Ossining.  She received her BA in Creative Writing and Theater from Sarah Lawrence College\, her MFA in Acting from the New School for Drama\, and has completed semester programs at the Moscow Art Theater School as well as NYU Tisch School of Dramatic Writing. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an Evening Hike and Lake Hang with Jaime Gorman of Highland Goat on Thursday October 22 at 5pm! \nWe’re planning a relaxed evening hike at Mountain Lakes Park\, led by Yellow Studio member Jaime Gorman of Highland Goat\, a local cannabis gummy producer. We’ll take a scenic route through the park\, stopping to connect with nature and our beautiful surroundings.  \nAfter the hike\, we’ll head just a few minutes down the road to Jaime’s lakeside spot to cool off with a swim (if weather permits!)\, enjoy drinks and snacks on the dock\, and take in the peaceful surroundings. The lake is stunning\, especially at dusk\, and there is often a resident eagle gliding above the trees! Maybe we’ll get lucky and spot her! \nBring your trail shoes\, bug spray\, sunscreen\, bathing suit and towel\, also some drinking water to replenish. \nUpon RSVP\, we’ll share a map of the trail and photos so you can get a sense of the landscape. \nWe can’t wait to unwind in nature together—hope you can join us! \nDock space is limited to 15 attendees.\nThis event is for Members of Yellow Studio.
