DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, April 10\, the Yellow Studio Art Club is heading to Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport\, CT — and we’d love for you to join us! \nWe’ll spend the morning exploring some of the building’s 38 artist studios\, browsing the shop\, and taking in the current exhibition in the Crown Gallery: Twist and Shout. \nTwist and Shout brings together six artists — Alex Ceppi\, John Guzman\, Louisa Pancoast\, Melissa Stern\, Yue Yuan\, and Tamsen Williams — whose figures bend\, twist\, and fracture in ways that communicate what words simply can’t. Rooted in Expressionism and moving fluidly between abstraction and figuration\, the work uses distortion and grotesque caricature as a kind of visual shorthand for emotion\, tension\, and identity. Some pieces lean into dark humor; others are raw and unfiltered. Curator Ellen Hawley weaves it all into a broader conversation about movement\, resilience\, and the expressive power of the human figure. DESCRIPTION:Join us for Multitudes: Artists’ Talk on Saturday\, April 11 at 2pm to learn more about the artistic practices\, process\, and influences of Allison Belolan\, Dorian Goldman\, Anne Pollard James and Angela Strassheim. \n\nAbout the Exhibition \nMultitudes\, a group exhibition featuring Allison Belolan\, Dorian Goldman\, Anne Pollard James\, and Angela Strassheim\, is on view through April 19\, 2026. The exhibition brings together painting\, photography\, printmaking\, and sculpture to examine how women perceive themselves and their bodies\, and how others perceive them. The works investigate the many versions of ourselves that exist simultaneously: the self we know\, the self others see\, the roles we inhabit\, and the experiences we share.  \nThrough diverse mediums and approaches\, the four artists reclaim autonomy and ownership of representation\, pushing back against idealized expectations and centering regular bodies as sites of strength and transformation. Anne Pollard James presents bold works that shift between confrontation and quiet negotiation. Allison Belolan’s layered monotypes and collages on handmade paper examine shared bodily experiences\, deliberately breaking from classical conventions. Angela Strassheim\, an internationally recognized photographer\, explores the performative aspects of photography while challenging traditional ways of looking at the female form. Dorian Goldman’s clay and bronze sculptures blur the boundary between the anatomical and the organic\, drawing connections between the female body and forms in nature. Together\, these artists create a powerful conversation about reclaiming the gaze and the right to take up space without apology. \n\n\nAbout the Artists \n\nAllison Belolan is a Mamaroneck\, New York-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice is influenced by observations\, documentation\, and research of her surroundings. She earned her BFA in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design and her MA in Teaching Art Education from the School of Visual Arts. Belolan’s work has been featured in galleries including Lichtundfire in New York\, Strata Gallery in Santa Fe\, and The Old Stone House in Brooklyn. She curates at The Idea Kitchen in Larchmont\, NY\, and serves as curatorial associate at Yellow Studio in Cross River\, NY. \nDorian Goldman is a New York-based sculptor whose work explores the intersection between the human form and the natural world through clay\, wood\, marble\, and cast bronze. She earned both a BA/BFA and an MFA in sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania. Goldman’s work has been exhibited at the Japan Society\, the Art Students League of New York\, and the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA)\, among others. In 2026\, she won the sculpture award from NAWA for their Winter Small Works Juried Exhibition. She has completed international residencies in Carrara\, Italy\, and Shigaraki\, Japan. \nAnne Pollard James is an Oklahoma-based contemporary oil painter whose work explores how women thrive in spaces often not made for or by them. With a background in historic preservation in real estate development\, James began painting in 2020 and committed to her art practice full-time in 2022. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions in Oklahoma\, New York City\, and California\, with solo exhibitions at The Price Tower Arts Center and Positive Space Gallery. James founded Carson House Tulsa\, a contemporary gallery\, studio\, and artist residency that centers on women and creative community work. \nAngela Strassheim is an Easton\, Connecticut-based internationally recognized photographer. She holds an MFA from Yale University\, a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art & Design\, and a Forensic Photography Certification from Metro-Dade. Strassheim’s work has been exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum\, the Whitney Museum\, the National Museum of Women in the Arts\, the Art Institute of Chicago\, and the Israel Museum\, among others. DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Yellow Studio presents Said in Color\, an exhibition of paintings and wall relief sculptures by Alissa Leigh and Giselle Landers\, on view April 25 to May 24\, 2025. Color is a language\, and these two abstract painters each speak it with a different accent\, arriving at bold\, expressive work from opposite directions. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday\, April 25\, from 4 to 6pm. RSVPs encouraged.  \nBoth artists draw color inspiration from the everyday world: textiles\, product packaging\, movie posters\, and the textures of city life. Leigh builds her mixed media works around a loosely drawn grid\, layering and scraping surfaces so that earlier marks shape what follows. Landers approaches abstraction through the lens of graphic design\, moving each piece from sketch to digital process before it reaches canvas or three-dimensional form. Her paintings and wall relief sculptures pull from a wide visual archive\, including modernist architecture\, hieroglyphics\, and pop culture imagery. Landers serves on the board of the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association and lives and works in Greenwich\, Connecticut. \nAlissa Leigh is a mixed media abstract painter based in Bedford\, New York. She has presented solo exhibitions at Chroma Gallery in Katonah\, NY\, shown in group exhibitions throughout the greater New York and Connecticut area\, and has exhibited in the  Armonk Outdoor Art Show for three consecutive years. DESCRIPTION:Join the Yellow Studio Nature & Sustainability Club on Wednesday\, May 13 at 6pm for Re-Wilding Workshop: Weave\, Gather\, Create with Rebecca Rivard. This hands-on outdoor workshop is centered on creativity\, sustainability\, and connection to the natural world. \nSet against the landscape of Ward Pound Ridge\, this special gathering invites you to slow down and create a small woven pouch using thrifted and secondhand yarns and fibers\, along with simple recycled cardboard looms. \n As part of the experience\, we’ll spend time exploring and gently foraging for natural materials—twigs\, grasses\, leaves\, and found elements—that can be woven into your piece or used as unique closures and finishing details. \nInspired by the idea of re-wilding\, this workshop encourages a return to intuitive making\, using what is around us and reimagining discarded materials with care and creativity. No prior weaving experience is needed—just a willingness to explore\, experiment\, and connect. \nParticipants will leave with a one-of-a-kind woven pouch and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of natural and repurposed materials. \nSpace is limited to 12 participants.  \n  \nAbout Rebecca Rivard \nRebecca Rivard is a multidisciplinary artist\, painter\, and composer working across paint\, sound\, and mixed media. Rooted in experimentation and intuitive process\, her work often incorporates natural and repurposed materials\, guided in part by an interest in “rewilding”\, returning materials and methods to a more tactile\, instinctive state. She brings this same spirit of curiosity and openness into her workshops\, encouraging participants to explore\, experiment\, and engage with materials in new ways.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, May 16 at 2pm to learn more about the artistic practices\, process\, and influences of Giselle Landers and Alissa Leigh.  \nAbout the Exhibition \nThe Gallery at Yellow Studio presents Said in Color\, an exhibition of paintings and wall relief sculptures by Alissa Leigh and Giselle Landers\, on view April 25 to May 24\, 2025. Color is a language\, and these two abstract painters each speak it with a different accent\, arriving at bold\, expressive work from opposite directions.  \nBoth artists draw color inspiration from the everyday world: textiles\, product packaging\, movie posters\, and the textures of city life. Leigh builds her mixed media works around a loosely drawn grid\, layering and scraping surfaces so that earlier marks shape what follows. Landers approaches abstraction through the lens of graphic design\, moving each piece from sketch to digital process before it reaches canvas or three-dimensional form. Her paintings and wall relief sculptures pull from a wide visual archive\, including modernist architecture\, hieroglyphics\, and pop culture imagery. The contrast between their methods is as much the point as the connection. \nAbout the Artists \nGiselle Landers is an artist and former graphic designer whose abstract paintings and wall relief sculptures explore the intersection of art and design. She earned a BFA from Syracuse University and a Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts in London\, and has exhibited in group shows in London\, New York\, and Connecticut. In 2026\, she was selected for the Canopy Program\, where she mentors under artist Erika Ranee. Landers serves on the board of the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association and lives and works in Greenwich\, Connecticut. \nAlissa Leigh is a mixed media abstract painter based in Bedford\, New York. She has presented solo exhibitions at Chroma Gallery in Katonah\, NY\, shown in group exhibitions throughout the greater New York and Connecticut area\, and has exhibited in the Armonk Outdoor Art Show for three consecutive years. Her work is held in private collections across the United States and Europe.

Be sure to bring your creative ideas and questions. \nAll participants may bring a favorite fresh flower or leaf from their garden\, if they wish. \nSpace is limited to 10 participants.  \nOrganized by Sarah Ehrlich & Mona Lipson \n  \nAbout Marguerite Alpert \nMy artwork transforms pressed and dried botanical materials into compositions that invite close observation. I deconstruct flowers into their smallest components – individual petals\, sepals\, and fragments and use these elements as building blocks for larger designs. Through this process\, I aim to present familiar natural materials in unexpected ways\, encouraging viewers to see them with fresh eyes.  \nViewers frequently mistake my botanical compositions for watercolor paintings or pen and ink drawings\, only to discover with delightful surprise that they are observing actual plant matter. This moment of revelation consistently draws people closer to examine the work more carefully\, a response that lies at the heart of my artistic intention.  \nMy practice centers on revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary\, highlighting the intricate details in nature that we often overlook. The transformation that occurs during the pressing and drying process is itself a form of artistic alchemy. Fresh flowers and leaves give up their three-dimensional form\, becoming flattened through the application of pressure and time. This metamorphosis reveals hidden structures: the delicate network of veins threading through petals becomes visible\, colors also shift and intensify in unexpected ways\, and textures emerge that were previously obscured by the plant’s fresh form.  \nMy work celebrates both the fragility and resilience of botanical life. My goal is to slow down the viewer’s gaze to foster a deeper appreciation for the complex beauty of nature that surrounds us every day.

I look forward to welcoming you and sharing my space.” \nMember RSVP required.  \nNorth Salem address will be sent after RSVPs are collected.  \n  \nAbout Carol Bouyoucos  \nCarol Bouyoucos\, from North Salem\, NY\, is a contemporary American artist whose work explores the intersection between nature and technology. Carol’s digital photographic works evoke a romanticism and nostalgia of nineteenth century landscape painting\, though created with distinctly 21st century tools. She has exhibited her work internationally\, and considers her most successful efforts to be her collaborations with fellow artists and curators. Recent exhibitions include\, Chroma Fine Art Gallery\, Lush\, Katonah\, NY; The Flinn Gallery\, Biophelia\, Greenwich\, CT; The Gallery at Yellow Studio\, Lost and Found\, Cross River\, NY: Atlantic Gallery\, Interior Wild\, NY\, NY. Carol holds a BFA from The University of Michigan’s School of Art And Design. \nArtist Statement \nUntil recently\, I lived on a 156-acre nature preserve with a pond\, marshland\, protected species\, and aggressively invasive plants. I observed an untamed landscape that sparked complex narratives in my work.  \nMy practice emerged from a growing sense that traditional photography\, my primary medium\, could not be pushed far enough to realize these stories. Post-photographic processes\, both digital and AI-driven\, allow me to articulate worlds shaped by an unsettling pastoral narrative.  \nMy “hypothetical” landscapes arise in the space where nature is not only observed\, but reimagined through rapidly evolving systems. By embracing the instability of both the natural world and the digital image\, my work situates itself in a restless\, shifting terrain. Giving myself permission to develop this new visual language has been a significant departure\, opening the work to forms that feel less descriptive and more speculative.  \n

Curated by Tina Villaveces\, this annual exhibition brings together 29 of Yellow Studio’s Artist Members working across painting\, sculpture\, photography\, mixed media\, and more. The exhibition is a portrait of a sustained creative community\, rooted in the towns and landscapes of Westchester\, the Hudson Valley\, and Southwestern Connecticut.  \nThe Artists in this exhibition come from different backgrounds and work in different ways\, but each has made their practice a serious and sustained part of their life. The work on view spans a wide range of mediums and approaches\, united by the sense that making art is not separate from living a life but emerges from one. She earned her BFA in Art and Design from Alfred University before building a multifaceted creative career spanning medical illustration\, advertising art direction\, graphic design\, and arts education. Her work bridges precision and expression\, informed equally by technical draftsmanship and a lifelong engagement with color\, composition\, and the natural world. Katie’s artwork has appeared in medical publications\, national advertising campaigns\, juried exhibitions\, and private collections. In addition to her studio practice\, she teaches painting and mixed media throughout the greater New York area\, encouraging experimentation\, observation\, and personal visual language in artists of all levels. \nCarol Paik is a mixed-media artist who divides her time between New York City and Pound Ridge\, NY. She is committed to not buying any new materials for her work. \nJessica Porter is an abstract painter based in Tarrytown\, NY. Her unique style combines her extensive art background with her expertise in the interior design and architecture industry. Captivated by the simplicity of hand-drawn renderings from a young age\, Jessica went on to a career in commercial design before returning to her early art roots. She now weaves the technical aspect of her career into her art to create captivating paintings that explore both architecture and nature together while playing with the light and color of a space. She creates a custom color palette for each piece to spark emotion and blend with the design of the space in which the painting will hang.  \nRebecca Rivard creates vibrant\, multi-layered abstractions that explore what lies beneath visible surfaces\, using intricate linear patterns to transform moments of meditation and raw emotion into visual narratives. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (BFA 1998)\, she expanded her artistic practice through music composition studies at Juilliard’s Evening Division (2017-2019). Rivard revitalized her visual art career through a residency at Yellow Studio. Her work has garnered Special Recognition at Carriage Barn Art Center’s All Member Show (2024) and exhibitions at Bedford Art Show\, Katonah Library\, Northern Westchester Hospital\, Bethany Arts Community\, and Bedford Books. An active leader in Westchester’s artistic community\, Rivard serves on the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association board and teaches workshops at Yellow Studio\, emphasizing the transformative power of process-based art.
