Our imagination follows\, the end of longer days\, the beginning of magical times. Beginning\, ending\, continuing. Light and dark\, day and night\, autumn turns to winter. What stories come with that? \nDo you have a story about twilight? Changing light? Final embers or seeds of hope? We want to read it. \nBroad interpretations\, as well as all genres welcome — fiction\, non-fiction\, short play\, poetry. \nSubmissions accepted from September 1 to September 22.  \nFive pieces will be selected from the first twenty-five submissions received by September 22. Her translation work was published in the Word for Word Anthology/2023\, and she was the recipient of the Word for Word Translation Grant from Columbia University. She’s a creative writing instructor at the Writing Institute/Sarah Lawrence College\, Hugo House\, and Bronxville Adult School. Rodrigues was a writer-in-residence at Yellow Studio from November/2024 through February/2025. She is currently working on her second novel.

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nPlease join us to celebrate Tricia Caracappa and view her new work in “Sweet Surrender” on Saturday September 13 from 4 to 6pm. \nThe Gallery at Yellow Studio presents “Sweet Surrender\,” a solo exhibition featuring new abstract works by Katonah-based artist Tricia Caracappa\, running from September 13 to October 11\, 2025. The exhibition investigates the transformative power of creative trust\, showcasing dynamic abstract landscapes that emerge when artistic control gives way to intuitive expression. “Sweet Surrender” chronicles Caracappa’s artistic evolution as she abandons rigid creative constraints to embrace a more fluid\, meditative practice\, working barefoot in her studio with music as her guide and allowing intuition and energy to direct her process. \nThe works showcase Caracappa’s unique blend of design sensibility and abstract expression. The exhibition features custom copper and wood sculptures designed by the artist\, complementing her paintings created with acrylics\, inks\, oil sticks\, and charcoal that reveal glimpses of beautifully dyed canvas beneath textured layers. We will be discussing the selected film\, Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) starring Noémie Merlant as Marianne and Adèle Haenel as Héloïse. The film is a French romantic drama written and directed by Céline Sciamma. \n\n\nFilm premise—France\, 1770. Marianne\, a painter\, is commissioned to do the wedding portrait of Héloïse\, a young woman who has just left the convent. Héloïse is a reluctant bride to be and Marianne must paint her without her knowing. She observes her by day\, to paint her secretly. \n\n\nThis film can be watched on HBO Max\, Hulu and Apple TV. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nDiscover the joy of transforming recycled materials into wearable art in this creative bead making workshop\, led by artist and maker Rebecca Rivard. \nRebecca’s love for crafting started young\, with a curiosity for creative projects that carried into her early work as Arts Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Boston\, where she taught art to children of all ages. Today\, in her own practice\, she’s passionate about finding ways to repurpose materials and give them vibrant second lives. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, you’ll turn colorful strips of recycled magazine paper into unique\, one-of-a-kind beads. Using simple tools like wooden skewers and sealing with nail polish or fast-drying acrylic medium\, you’ll create your own stackable bracelets or layered necklaces\, an easy-to-learn process with endless creative possibilities. \nTogether\, we’ll explore: \n\nHow to cut and shape paper for different bead styles\nRolling and sealing methods\nTips for color combinations and design\nIdeas for finishing jewelry pieces of all lengths\n\nWhether you’re new to crafting or looking for a spark of inspiration\, this workshop is a fun and meaningful way to slow down\, connect\, and create. \nAll materials provided. No experience necessary. \nSpace is limited to 10 Attendees. \n  \n \nAbout Rebecca Rivard \nRebecca Rivard creates vibrant\, multi-layered abstractions that explore what lies beneath visible surfaces\, using intricate linear patterns to transform moments of meditation and raw emotion into visual narratives. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (BFA 1998)\, she expanded her artistic practice through music composition studies at Juilliard’s Evening Division (2017-2019). Rivard revitalized her visual art career through a residency at Yellow Studio. Her work has garnered Special Recognition at Carriage Barn Art Center’s All Member Show (2024) and exhibitions at The Gallery at Yellow Studio\, Bedford Art Show\, Katonah Library\, Northern Westchester Hospital\, Bethany Arts Community\, and Bedford Books. An active leader in Westchester’s artistic community\, Rivard serves on the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association board and teaches workshops at Yellow Studio\, emphasizing the transformative power of process-based art. \n

SUMMARY:Writing Club: Writers on Writing - From Creation to Press
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nJoin us for a collaborative discussion with writers on getting their ideas to paper. Everyone has a different journey and while writing can seem like a solo adventure\, there is a whole community of writers that can help us on our writing odyssey. \nLauren Porté-Schwarzfeld will lead our discussion with local authors Lauren Acampora\, Jimin Han\, Heather Harpham and Nancy Torres on topics ranging from the ups and downs of the creative process to the nitty-gritty path to publishing. The talk will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions and chat with the authors. \n  \nAbout the Authors \n\nLauren Acampora is the author of four books of fiction: The Wonder Garden\, The Paper Wasp\, The Hundred Waters\, and The Animal Room\, a forthcoming collection of linked stories. Lauren’s work has won or been nominated for the GLCA New Writers Award\, the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize\, the Story Prize\, and the New England Book Award\, and she’s been named an Artist Fellow in Fiction by The New York Foundation for the Arts. Her writing has appeared in publications such as The Paris Review\, New England Review\, Missouri Review\, Guernica\, and The New York Times\, and will be anthologized in The Best American Short Stories 2025. She lives with her family in Katonah.\n \n\nJimin Han is the author of A Small Revolution and The Apology\, a Barnes and Noble Discover Pick; named a best audiobook of the year by Booklist\, a best book of the summer by the LA Times\, Vanity Fair\, Shondaland\, Apple Books and more. Additional writing of hers can be found in Poets & Writers\, Literary Hub\, Catapult\, and other publications. She teaches at The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College and community writing centers. Her work has been supported by the New York State Council on the Arts. Dreamt I Found You\, her new novel\, is forthcoming in April 2026. \nHeather Harpham is a writer and theater artist whose fiction\, essays and reviews have appeared in The Guardian\, Slate\, Parents\, MORE Magazine\, Water~Stone Review and Red Magazine in the UK. Her debut memoir\, Happiness: The Crooked Little Road to Semi-Ever After\, was a Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club selection. She teaches in the MFA Writing Program at Sarah Lawrence College\, where she is currently the Strachan Donnelley Visiting Professor in Environmental Writing. Heather’s writing also includes works for the stage\, primarily six solo plays\, the most recent of which\, BURNING\, toured nationally. Originally from northern California\, Harpham now lives in New York\, a short walk from the Hudson River\, with her family. \nNancy Torres is an elementary educator and meditation guide. She received a B.A. in Corporate Communications from Baruch College\, City University of New York\, and received an M.A. in Childhood Education and Special Education from New York University. Nancy speaks both English and Spanish and in 2022 she published the children’s book\, Say It With Me (Dilo Conmigo). She lives in New York with her husband and their two sons. \n  \nAbout the Moderator \nLauren Porté-Schwarzfeld is the Chief Marketing Officer for Rise Literary\, a hybrid publisher and book coaching company. She has spent the past 20 years working in sales\, fundraising\, and marketing through various industries\, realizing that the most powerful part of a storied work history is the wide variety of human connection. In 2025 Lauren was the co-producer of TEDxOjai\, featuring 12 speakers through the daylong event in Ojai\, CA. She is endlessly curious\, a lover of books\, travel\, and new adventures.
