DESCRIPTION:September has a way of inviting us forward. A new season begins to stir\, familiar routines return\, calendars start to fill\, and some of us may find ourselves standing at the beginning of an entirely new chapter. Amid all that movement\, there is a quieter invitation too: to return to ourselves. To pause\, feel our feet beneath us\, take a deeper breath\, and remember that we don’t have to meet the energy of a new season by rushing into it. \nThis month\, we’ll explore The Art of Returning to Yourself through gentle mindfulness\, reflection\, grounding breathing practices\, and guided meditation. Like a painting created brushstroke by brushstroke\, a song composed note by note\, or a story written word by word\, a grounded life is shaped through small moments of presence—one breath\, one pause\, one return at a time. We’ll practice simple ways to calm the nervous system and reconnect with ourselves as we move into the months ahead. Because the practice isn’t about never losing our center. The chaos of our world challenges us constantly. It’s about remembering the way back. DESCRIPTION:Join the YS Nature & Sustainabilty Club at the Herb Fair & Market on Saturday September 19 at Caramoor! Experience a diverse marketplace featuring fresh herbs\, artisanal products\, and herbal delights\, plus\, unique wares for the home\, garden\, and table\, along with herb-infused gourmet foods. The event runs from 10am to 4pm. We will plan to meet at 11am to explore the fair and market together. Join us to celebrate the selected writers and hear their stories on Wednesday\, September 23 at 7pm. \nThe Party: Have you been to a rockin’ New Year’s party? A wild wedding? A dinner party that would make Gatsby envious? A party can be a bash for five hundred people\, an intimate dinner for two\, or a solitary dance in the living room. Parties bring together those we love and those we hate\, or maybe a stranger who can change your life in one night. Her “Party” scene is an excerpt from a chapter in that novel. She lives in Westchester County\, New York. \nAbout Debra Banerjee\nDebra Banerjee is a freelance writer who has spent the last decade as a contributor to The Boca Raton Observer\, a monthly lifestyle magazine. Prior to that\, she was the Arts and Entertainment Editor at The Scarsdale Inquirer. Banerjee’s debut novel\, “Murder at Mah Jongg\,” will be released in the fall of 2026. She splits her time between Boca Raton\, Florida and New York City. \nAbout Lynn Edelson \nLynn Edelson has been writing memoir for more than fifteen years. \nHer narrative essays have appeared in the NYC Listen To Your Mother show\, Writers Read/Read650\, Carnegie Hall’s Voices of Hope Festival\, HerStry blog\, Every Family’s Got One\, and The Westchester Review. She was also a finalist for the 2023 Eunice Williams Nonfiction Prize. \nLynn is the mother of two grown sons. She lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband and is currently working on a collection of her essays. \nAbout Lindsay Gael\nLindsay Gael is a writer interested in stories about women. Her non-fiction writing has appeared in various magazines and publications\, and she is excited to share some of her closely guarded fiction with the world. She lives with her family north of New York City. \nAbout Christine Carpenter\nChristine Carpenter has been writing since she could hold a pen\, but the birth of her first child awakened her to the power of the written word. After her little boy arrived during the height of COVID\, she left a career of more than a decade in the fashion industry and decided to pursue her earliest passion––writing. \nToday\, Christine is a contributing editor and writer for The Bump\, an online parenting platform where she writes eCommerce content for new and expectant parents. Her personal work often explores motherhood\, identity\, relationships\, and the ways we change through the lives we’re building. She is drawn to honest\, reflective storytelling and to writing about the moments that shape us\, even when we don’t fully understand them until later. \nChristine lives in New York and is a mom to two little boys. She continues to write personal essays alongside her editorial work. \nAbout Jessica Rao\nJessica Rao is the author of the forthcoming novel Nowhere to Go but Everywhere (Ten 16 Press\, September 2026). She’s also an award-winning journalist and media professional who has held contributor roles at CNBC and Gannett and overseen communications for Fortune 500 companies. \nIn addition to her media career\, Jessica is the Vice President of the White Plains Library Foundation Board and she hosts and produces literary events. \nAbout Ines Rodrigues\nInes Rodrigues is an author and teacher\, who published her first novel\, Days of Bossa Nova\, in 2017.  Her short fiction appears in The Plentitudes Literary Journal\, Columbia Anthology\, Tint Journal\, and 650-Writers Read. Her translation work appears in the Word for Word Anthology/2023\, and ANMLY.org. She was the recipient of the Word for Word Translation Grant from Columbia University in 2023. She’s a creative writing instructor at the Writing Institute/Sarah Lawrence College\, and Hugo House. Rodrigues was a writer-in-residence at Yellow Studio from November/2024 through February/2025. She is currently seeking representation for her second novel.

SUMMARY:Pressed Botanical Design Workshop with Marguerite Alpert
DESCRIPTION:For all interested artists of nature: this workshop on Wednesday September 30 at 6pm is an opportunity to create a pressed botanical composition using your own previously pressed materials from our earlier workshop. For anyone who did not attend the pressing workshop\, Marguerite will provide a beautiful selection of pressed botanical specimens. Depending on each participant’s pace\, a design may be completed or well underway by the end of the session. \nSpace is limited to 10 participants.  \n  \nAbout Marguerite Alpert \nMy artwork transforms pressed and dried botanical materials into compositions that invite close observation. I deconstruct flowers into their smallest components – individual petals\, sepals\, and fragments and use these elements as building blocks for larger designs. Through this process\, I aim to present familiar natural materials in unexpected ways\, encouraging viewers to see them with fresh eyes.  \nViewers frequently mistake my botanical compositions for watercolor paintings or pen and ink drawings\, only to discover with delightful surprise that they are observing actual plant matter. This moment of revelation consistently draws people closer to examine the work more carefully\, a response that lies at the heart of my artistic intention.  \nMy practice centers on revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary\, highlighting the intricate details in nature that we often overlook. The transformation that occurs during the pressing and drying process is itself a form of artistic alchemy. Fresh flowers and leaves give up their three-dimensional form\, becoming flattened through the application of pressure and time. This metamorphosis reveals hidden structures: the delicate network of veins threading through petals becomes visible\, colors also shift and intensify in unexpected ways\, and textures emerge that were previously obscured by the plant’s fresh form.  \nMy work celebrates both the fragility and resilience of botanical life. My goal is to slow down the viewer’s gaze to foster a deeper appreciation for the complex beauty of nature that surrounds us every day.
