SUMMARY:Artists' Talk & Opening Reception: Traces of the Infinite featuring Helena Palazzi\, Soli Pierce & Lara Saget
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Yellow Studio presents “Traces of the Infinite\,” a small group exhibition featuring the work of Helena Palazzi\, Soli Pierce\, and Lara Saget\, on view September 12 through October 18\, 2026. The exhibition brings together three practices that share an interest in a rawness of material and form\, and a refusal to treat separation as final. Join us on Saturday\, September 12 for an artists’ talk at 3pm and an opening reception from 4 to 6pm. \nPierce and Saget both build their work from the materials of the natural world\, stone\, wood\, glass\, and metal\, treating found and raw matter as a starting point rather than a finished thing. Palazzi’s paintings meet that work with a muted palette and layered surface that hold the same quiet register. Together\, the artists share an interest in what lies beneath the visible surface of a work\, and in the moments when the boundaries we take for granted begin to give way. \nAbout the Artists \nHelena Palazzi is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Kingston\, New York. Born in Sweden\, she moved to Italy in 1993 to study at the Academy of Fine Arts Pietro Vannucci in Perugia\, Umbria\, where she was introduced to the ideas of Arte Povera and began exhibiting work in photography\, painting\, and mixed media. In 1998\, Palazzi relocated to New York City\, where she built an international career spanning more than two decades in fashion and commercial photography\, working with leading brands\, designers\, magazines\, and creative agencies. After moving to the Hudson Valley in 2019\, she gradually returned to painting\, reestablishing a studio practice that now forms the center of her work. Today\, she creates contemporary abstract paintings and works on paper from her studio in Kingston\, New York. \nSoli Pierce is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans sculpture\, encaustic painting\, photography\, installation\, and sound. Her practice explores how light\, material\, and atmosphere shape perception\, memory\, and inward reflection. She is known for her immersive sculptural environments and encaustic paintings that incorporate organic matter and recurring circular motifs. Her work has been the subject of recent solo exhibitions at KinoSaito Arts Center\, ArtsWestchester Gallery\, Hammond Museum\, and BAU Gallery\, with a 2025 artist-in-residence at KinoSaito and Jentel\, and a 2026 artist-in-residence at Tongue River. Pierce has received grants from ArtsWestchester and NYSCA\, and her work has appeared in The New York Times\, The Village Voice\, and Ars Electronica. \nLara Saget is a Brooklyn-based sculptor and artist whose practice explores spirituality through a scientific lens and imagines new possibilities of natural material design. Over the past decade\, she has envisioned large-scale sculptures in bronze\, glass\, and marble: exploring opposing elements\, creating synergies through these material encounters. Her sculptures and installations have been exhibited with Trotter&Sholer Gallery (New York\, NY)\, Halsey McKay Gallery (East Hampton\, NY)\, Bellevue Arts Museum (Bellevue\, WA)\, and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (Houston\, TX). Saget was awarded the 2022 Tg: Transitions in Kiln-Glass Emerging Artist Honor\, along with the 2017 NYU MFA Artistic Practice Award. She received her BA from Barnard College and her MFA from New York University.

The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch\, Kirsten Dunst\, Jesse Plemons\, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. \nFilm Premise: Charismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son\, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.  \nWhere to watch: You can stream on Netflix. \nHosted by Beth Spitalny \nThis session’s conversation will be led by Beth on topics from the film such as theme\, style\, genre and more! \nThe Yellow Studio Film Club is a group of women who are interested in watching and discussing female-centric stories that have been on the big screen. Each month\, a different film will be chosen – selections will vary in terms of genre and time period but will always involve a female-centric theme and/or be written and/or directed by a woman. Once a month the group will meet to discuss the various aspects of the chosen film. Parties bring together those we love and those we hate\, or maybe a stranger who can change your life in one night. If you have a story about a party\, we want to read it. \nBroad interpretations\, as well as all genres welcome — fiction\, non-fiction\, short play\, or poetry. \n  \nFive selected authors will be notified by Thursday September 3 and will read their work at the Writers’ Salon at Yellow Studio\, in person\, on Wednesday\, September 23 at 7pm. \n\n\n\n\nAbout Jessica Rao\nJessica Rao is the author of the forthcoming novel Nowhere to Go but Everywhere (Ten 16 Press\, September 2026). She’s also an award-winning journalist and media professional who has held contributor roles at CNBC and Gannett and overseen communications for Fortune 500 companies.\n\nIn addition to her media career\, Jessica is the Vice President of the White Plains Library Foundation Board and she hosts and produces literary events.\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ines Rodrigues\nInes Rodrigues is an author and teacher\, who published her first novel\, Days of Bossa Nova\, in 2017.  Her short fiction appears in The Plentitudes Literary Journal\, Columbia Anthology\, Tint Journal\, and 650-Writers Read. Her translation work appears in the Word for Word Anthology/2023\, and ANMLY.org. She was the recipient of the Word for Word Translation Grant from Columbia University in 2023. She’s a creative writing instructor at the Writing Institute/Sarah Lawrence College\, and Hugo House. Rodrigues was a writer-in-residence at Yellow Studio from November/2024 through February/2025. She is currently seeking representation for her second novel.

SUMMARY:Pressed Botanical Design Workshop with Marguerite Alpert
DESCRIPTION:For all interested artists of nature: this workshop on Wednesday September 30 at 6pm is an opportunity to create a pressed botanical composition using your own previously pressed materials from our earlier workshop. For anyone who did not attend the pressing workshop\, Marguerite will provide a beautiful selection of pressed botanical specimens. Depending on each participant’s pace\, a design may be completed or well underway by the end of the session. \nSpace is limited to 10 participants.  \n  \nAbout Marguerite Alpert \nMy artwork transforms pressed and dried botanical materials into compositions that invite close observation. I deconstruct flowers into their smallest components – individual petals\, sepals\, and fragments and use these elements as building blocks for larger designs. Through this process\, I aim to present familiar natural materials in unexpected ways\, encouraging viewers to see them with fresh eyes.  \nViewers frequently mistake my botanical compositions for watercolor paintings or pen and ink drawings\, only to discover with delightful surprise that they are observing actual plant matter. This moment of revelation consistently draws people closer to examine the work more carefully\, a response that lies at the heart of my artistic intention.  \nMy practice centers on revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary\, highlighting the intricate details in nature that we often overlook. The transformation that occurs during the pressing and drying process is itself a form of artistic alchemy. Fresh flowers and leaves give up their three-dimensional form\, becoming flattened through the application of pressure and time. This metamorphosis reveals hidden structures: the delicate network of veins threading through petals becomes visible\, colors also shift and intensify in unexpected ways\, and textures emerge that were previously obscured by the plant’s fresh form.  \nMy work celebrates both the fragility and resilience of botanical life. My goal is to slow down the viewer’s gaze to foster a deeper appreciation for the complex beauty of nature that surrounds us every day.
