DESCRIPTION:Join the Yellow Studio Nature & Sustainability Club on Wednesday\, May 13 at 6pm for Re-Wilding Workshop: Weave\, Gather\, Create with Rebecca Rivard. This hands-on outdoor workshop is centered on creativity\, sustainability\, and connection to the natural world. \nSet against the landscape of Ward Pound Ridge\, this special gathering invites you to slow down and create a small woven pouch using thrifted and secondhand yarns and fibers\, along with simple recycled cardboard looms. \n As part of the experience\, we’ll spend time exploring and gently foraging for natural materials—twigs\, grasses\, leaves\, and found elements—that can be woven into your piece or used as unique closures and finishing details. \nInspired by the idea of re-wilding\, this workshop encourages a return to intuitive making\, using what is around us and reimagining discarded materials with care and creativity. No prior weaving experience is needed—just a willingness to explore\, experiment\, and connect. \nParticipants will leave with a one-of-a-kind woven pouch and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of natural and repurposed materials. \nSpace is limited to 12 participants.  \n  \nAbout Rebecca Rivard \nRebecca Rivard is a multidisciplinary artist\, painter\, and composer working across paint\, sound\, and mixed media. DESCRIPTION:Looking to reconnect with nature and other like-minded Yellow Studio women? Join the Nature & Sustainability Club on Monday June 8 at 6pm for a peaceful evening walk along the Cross River. \nThis riverside trail winds gently through Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, following the original Cross River as it curves through forest and wetland. Early June is a beautiful time to be out here: the woods are quiet\, the water is moving\, and the landscape is blooming. We’ll enjoy an approximately one-hour hike at a relaxed\, conversational pace\, with time to pause and take in the scenery. \nWard Pound Ridge is Westchester County’s largest park\, spanning over 4\,000 acres of protected land. The reservation preserves diverse ecosystems and historic waterways\, offering a rare sense of calm and continuity with the natural world. This stretch along the river is especially serene\, with open views of the water and gentle terrain suitable for most hikers. \nParking details and a map will be emailed to participants in advance of the hike. \nWe look forward to enjoying a few moments in nature with each of you. \nFor Yellow Studio Members. SUMMARY:Nature & Sustainability Club: The Art of Botanical Pressing with Marguerite Alpert
DESCRIPTION:For all interested artists of nature: this class on Wednesday July 15 at 6pm is an opportunity to learn how to press fresh flowers using a wooden flower press (yours to keep). We will focus on a variety of techniques and materials for success. There will be plenty of opportunities for questions and discussions on the history\, science\, and design of pressed botanical art. Prepare for a creative\, relaxing\, and informative experience! \nAll materials will be provided. Be sure to bring your creative ideas and questions. \nAll participants may bring a favorite fresh flower or leaf from their garden\, if they wish. \nSpace is limited to 10 participants.  \nOrganized by Sarah Ehrlich & Mona Lipson \n  \nAbout Marguerite Alpert \nMy artwork transforms pressed and dried botanical materials into compositions that invite close observation. I deconstruct flowers into their smallest components – individual petals\, sepals\, and fragments and use these elements as building blocks for larger designs. Through this process\, I aim to present familiar natural materials in unexpected ways\, encouraging viewers to see them with fresh eyes.  \nViewers frequently mistake my botanical compositions for watercolor paintings or pen and ink drawings\, only to discover with delightful surprise that they are observing actual plant matter. This moment of revelation consistently draws people closer to examine the work more carefully\, a response that lies at the heart of my artistic intention.  \nMy practice centers on revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary\, highlighting the intricate details in nature that we often overlook. The transformation that occurs during the pressing and drying process is itself a form of artistic alchemy. Fresh flowers and leaves give up their three-dimensional form\, becoming flattened through the application of pressure and time. This metamorphosis reveals hidden structures: the delicate network of veins threading through petals becomes visible\, colors also shift and intensify in unexpected ways\, and textures emerge that were previously obscured by the plant’s fresh form.  \nMy work celebrates both the fragility and resilience of botanical life. My goal is to slow down the viewer’s gaze to foster a deeper appreciation for the complex beauty of nature that surrounds us every day.

SUMMARY:Nature & Sustainability Club: Evening Hike with the BRLA
DESCRIPTION:Join Valentina from the Bedford Riding Lanes Association team for a 1.5-2 mile hike along their beautiful and rambling private trails on Tuesday\, August 11 at 6pm. \nOfficially founded in 1920\, the BRLA maintains more than 100 linear miles of historic trails which connect and extend throughout Bedford\, Mount Kisco\, Katonah\, Bedford Hills\, Bedford Corners and Pound Ridge. Members meandering the trails enjoy the beautiful flora\, fauna and other natural wonders that make our community unique. The trail system is one of the largest remaining networks of private trails. The BRLA maintains and clears the trails year-round to ensure that they are preserved for future generations. \nThe mission of the BRLA is to preserve and maintain the historic trail system throughout greater Bedford while furthering its equestrian and pastoral traditions for the benefit and enjoyment of our entire community. \nPlease see information about hiking the trails here. \nWe will send parking and meet up location closer to the date. \nYour $20 ticket includes a donation to the BRLA and a glass of wine. \nSpace is limited to 15 hikers. \nOrganized by Sarah Ehrlich & Mona Lipson
