SUMMARY:Pressed Botanical Design Workshop with Marguerite Alpert
DESCRIPTION:For all interested artists of nature: this workshop on Wednesday September 30 at 6pm is an opportunity to create a pressed botanical composition using your own previously pressed materials from our earlier workshop. For anyone who did not attend the pressing workshop\, Marguerite will provide a beautiful selection of pressed botanical specimens. Depending on each participant’s pace\, a design may be completed or well underway by the end of the session. \nSpace is limited to 10 participants.  \n  \nAbout Marguerite Alpert \nMy artwork transforms pressed and dried botanical materials into compositions that invite close observation. I deconstruct flowers into their smallest components – individual petals\, sepals\, and fragments and use these elements as building blocks for larger designs. Through this process\, I aim to present familiar natural materials in unexpected ways\, encouraging viewers to see them with fresh eyes. \nViewers frequently mistake my botanical compositions for watercolor paintings or pen and ink drawings\, only to discover with delightful surprise that they are observing actual plant matter. This moment of revelation consistently draws people closer to examine the work more carefully\, a response that lies at the heart of my artistic intention. \nMy practice centers on revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary\, highlighting the intricate details in nature that we often overlook. The transformation that occurs during the pressing and drying process is itself a form of artistic alchemy. Fresh flowers and leaves give up their three-dimensional form\, becoming flattened through the application of pressure and time. This metamorphosis reveals hidden structures: the delicate network of veins threading through petals becomes visible\, colors also shift and intensify in unexpected ways\, and textures emerge that were previously obscured by the plant’s fresh form. \nMy work celebrates both the fragility and resilience of botanical life. My goal is to slow down the viewer’s gaze to foster a deeper appreciation for the complex beauty of nature that surrounds us every day.

SUMMARY:Nature & Sustainability Club: Stitch Sampler Bandana Workshop with Arielle Toelke
DESCRIPTION:Join the Nature & Sustainability Club for an evening of stitching with artist and designer Arielle Toelke of Four Rabbit\, returning to Yellow Studio for a new hands-on textile workshop. \nFor this workshop\, Arielle has created a special stitch sampler that doubles as a wearable neckerchief. Printed with a design created to guide your stitching\, the bandana will become our canvas as we learn and practice a variety of embroidery stitches together.  The sampler includes room to practice decorative designs of your choice in addition to following the printed stitches. \nArielle will introduce participants to a range of simple\, versatile stitches\, with plenty of opportunity to experiment with color\, pattern\, and texture. As you work your way through the printed design\, you’ll create a visual reference of the stitches you’ve learned—and a one-of-a-kind textile piece that can be worn\, used\, or kept as inspiration for future stitching projects. \nThis workshop is designed for all experience levels.  \nNo sewing or embroidery experience is required.  \nAll materials included with ticket. \nAbout Arielle \nWith a background in art and a career as a celebrity makeup artist in film and television\, Arielle Toelke brings her love of graphic imagery\, color\, nature\, and design to her creative practice. She is the artist\, owner\, and designer behind Four Rabbit\, a line of graphic and playful soft goods inspired by the outdoors\, sustainability\, and lightweight travel. She is the author of an illustrated guide to natural dyeing Cooking Color\, finding a rainbow in the kitchen\, a guide to natural dyes.
