SUMMARY:Book Club: Accumulation by Aimee Pokwatka
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, June 16 at 6:30pm for a special book club gathering at Aimee Pokwatka’s home in Cross River. We will be discussing her latest novel\, Accumulation. There will be time to ask questions\, plus a tour of the house (and its ghosts) that inspired the book! \nThis is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLocation address given upon Member RSVP \nLight refreshments will be available. \nMember RSVP required. \nThis book is available for purchase at Bedford Books! You can also purchase the book on the Bedford Books website here and have it shipped to you. \nAbout the Book\nA twisty\, searing\, conversation-starting novel about a filmmaker-turned-housewife who moves into her dream house and is forced to consider whether it’s the house or herself that is haunted. \nWhen documentary filmmaker turned stay-at-home mom Tennessee Cherish moves into the the dream house her husband bought for her\, a brighter future seems to be on the horizon. Even if her husband is frustratingly absent due to his new high-paying job. Even if their two young children begin acting out in strange ways. Even if she feels lonelier than ever. \nDistracted by the endless details that come with moving into a new town\, a new house\, and new schools\, Tenn doesn’t notice when odd things begin happening at home. The faucet that runs at all hours. The creepy doll that seems to show up in every room. The human tooth they found in the floorboards. \nAs the kids’ outbursts and the strange events start to escalate\, the family finds themselves increasingly caught in loops\, repeating everyday actions with dangerous—and then devastating—effects. Tenn realizes she must find the source of what is haunting her family\, before it kills them all. \nTaut and twisty\, scary and searing\, Aimee Pokwatka’s Accumulation lays bare the high price women pay for the promises of domesticity and motherhood\, and the many ways in which families can be haunted. \n  \nAbout the Author \nAimee Pokwatka is the author of the genre-bending novels Accumulation\, Self-Portrait with Nothing\, and The Parliament. Born and raised in Wheeling\, West Virginia\, she studied anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro\, where she helped catalog a collection of archaic-period human skeletal remains. She received her MFA in creative writing from Syracuse University. She has also taught writers of all ages\, and served as the editor of Salt Hill Journal and The Newtowner. She is an active member at Yellow Studio\, where she can often be found writing in her studio in the attic. She lives in a haunted house in New York with her family.

SUMMARY:Finding the Language for Your Work: An Interactive Workshop with Corrie Jackson
DESCRIPTION:Join Yellow Studio and Corrie Jackson\, writer and editor on Thursday\, May 14 at 10am for an interactive workshop\, Finding the Language for Your Work: Clear Words for Your Website\, Bio\, and Beyond. \nWriting about your work can be surprisingly difficult. Many creatives and small business owners know exactly what they do—until they have to articulate it for a website\, bio\, or social profile. The result? Flat\, vague language—and a missed opportunity to connect with the right audience. \nCorrie will share an editor’s approach to sharpening the language around your work or business. We’ll uncover how vague phrasing sneaks in\, develop the one-sentence anchor that makes describing what you do dramatically easier\, and explore how to write for someone new to your work or business. Participants are invited to bring a short piece of writing—such as a website introduction\, bio\, or statement—and we’ll refine it together through live editing. \nYou’ll leave with clearer language\, and the tools you need to communicate what you do with confidence. \nGet tickets today! \nYS Supporter Member: $20 (20% discount) \nYS Artist & Community Member: $22.50 (10% discount) \nNon-member: $25 (full price) \nAbout Corrie:\nCorrie Jackson is a writer and editor with 25 years’ experience shaping language for magazines\, books\, and brands. She spent over a decade as a journalist and editor\, including roles at Harper’s Bazaar\, the Daily Mail\, and Glamour\, and has written for publications including Forbes\, The Times\, Marie Claire\, and Sunday Times Style. She is also a published author and non-fiction book editor. Today she works as a copywriter and creative strategist for brands ranging from local (oHHo\, Prelove You) to national (Boll & Branch\, Popflex\, Letterfolk\, Onsen)\, helping founders\, creatives\, and companies sharpen their language.

SUMMARY:SPARK Your Life: Story Medicine for Modern Women with Tambra McCarthy
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nA 3-Part Transformational Workshop Series  \nWe all carry stories. Some have shaped us. Others have caused us to dim our light\, or no longer fit. But now—you’re ready to reclaim your voice\, reconnect with your truth\, and ignite your next chapter. And the Fall season is the perfect time to shed. \nSPARK Your Life is a 3-week immersive experience for women ready to rise from the inside out. Through poetry\, monologue\, song\, artwork—even painting or movement—you’ll begin to reshape outdated narratives and reconnect with your inner fire. \nSpace is limited to 12 attendees.  \nThe Journey Unfolds Across Three Transformational Sessions:\nWeek 1: Uncover the Stories You Carry (Wednesday October 8)\nWe begin by creating a safe\, sacred space for self-expression and curiosity. Together we’ll explore the unconscious narratives that have shaped your identity—stories passed down\, picked up\, or held quietly for years. You’ll meet your Wise Woman Within and begin to express yourself freely\, whether through words\, movement\, or creative form. \nFocus: Empowerment\, reframing\, self-expression\, authenticity. \nWeek 3: Embody & Share Your Truth in Sacred Circle (Wednesday October 22)\nOur final session is a powerful witnessing circle. In a supportive space\, you’ll have the opportunity to share a personal piece you’ve created—spoken\, sung\, written\, or visual. You’ll be seen\, celebrated\, and held as you step into your story not just as a narrator\, but as its author and embodiment. \nFocus: Integration\, visibility\, embodiment\, sacred community. \nWhat You’ll Experience:\n\nBreathwork\, grounding\, and visualization to quiet the mind and access inner wisdom\nJournaling and creative prompts to move your story from body to page or whatever form of self-expression you choose\nOpportunities to express through poetry\, painting\, monologue\, or music—no experience required\nA closing storytelling circle where you are witnessed and celebrated\nTake-home ritual prompts and a personal affirmation to support continued growth\n\nThis Workshop Series is For You If…\n\nYou’re ready to reconnect with your voice\, your creativity\, and your sacred truth\nYou’ve lived a life in service to\, or pleasing others and now want to come home to yourself\nYou’re navigating change\, transition\, or reinvention and seeking inner clarity\nYou long for a creative\, soulful space to reconnect with your inner fire and like-minded women\n\nYour story is sacred. Lauren Schwarzfeld will be moderating. Lauren recently produced a TEDx event where she coached speakers to engage and inspire. Fran and Lauren know what makes a successful interview and are ready to share. \nOraganized by Molly Felde \nSpace is limited to 10 attendees.  \nTickets:\nYS Members: Free\nNon YS Members: $25\n  \nAbout Fran Hauser\n  \n\nFran Hauser is a bestselling author\, keynote speaker\, champion of women in the workplace\, and a LinkedIn Top Voice. \nShe has spoken at over 200 organizations\, including Meta\, Google\, Unilever\, Blackrock\, NPR\, Mastercard\, and The Conference for Women. Its runaway success formed the catalyst for her acclaimed thought-leadership platform. The follow-up workbook Embrace the Work\, Love Your Career (2022\, Collective Book Studio) has become the go-to curriculum for women’s affinity groups nationwide. \nFran’s publishing journey was so rewarding that she created Bookbound\, a platform dedicated to helping female non-fiction writers get published. SUMMARY:Book Club: Before Us by Jewel E. Ann
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Book Club at Bedford Books on Thursday April 24 at 6:30pm to discuss Before Us by Jewel E. Ann. There will be lively discussion\, questions posed and answered and time to connect with fellow YS Members. \nThis is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLight refreshments will be available. \nMember RSVP required. \nThis book is available for purchase at Bedford Books! You can also purchase the book online here and have it shipped to you.  \n  \nAbout the Book \nI never saw him coming. \nI didn’t know what would happen after my client found me sleeping in my car. \nI’d been cleaning his house as his wife was dying. \nI didn’t expect them to invite me to live with them. \nI didn’t expect Suzie to become my lifeline-until she was gone. \nI didn’t expect him to ask me to marry him when he found out I needed medical insurance. \nI didn’t expect to fall in love with a grieving man. \nThere are so many reasons to keep my distance from Zach. Every tender moment secreted away. \nWhen we’re not together\, I miss the man I call husband. \nDoes he miss his wife? If so\, which one? \n  \nAbout the Author \nJewel is a Wall Street Journal & USA Today best selling author with a quirky sense of humor. When she’s not saving the planet one tree at a time\, you can find her role modeling questionable behavior to her three boys\, binge-watching Netflix with her husband\, and writing mind-bending romance. \nHer newest release is I Thought of You\, a contemporary romance/women’s fiction. \n  \nLocation: \nBedford Books\n13 Court Rd\nBedford\, NY 10506
