SUMMARY:New date! Exploring the Author-Editor Relationship with Michelle Garside and Diana Ventimiglia
DESCRIPTION:The road to publishing is a long one and the team you surround yourself with can make all the difference. In this behind-the-scenes chat with forthcoming author\, Michelle Garside and her editor\, Diana Ventimiglia\, we’ll explore the author-editor relationship and how this collaboration can shape your book\, writing and publishing experience.\n  \nModerated by Lauren Porté Schwarzfeld. \nThe talk will be followed by Q&A from the audience.\n  \nMichelle Garside is a visionary brand architect who has spent the last 15 years transforming personal and corporate identities\, crafting brands that resonate at the deepest level. \nAfter leaving a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry\, where she built powerhouse brands for Novo Nordisk\, Unilever and Johnson & Johnson\, she dedicated herself to a more profound mission—helping individuals uncover the soul of their own brand.\nWith a gift for seeing the through-line that connects a person’s story\, purpose\, and impact\, Michelle has created thousands of personal brands that embody authenticity and alignment. \nDiana Ventimiglia is a NYT bestselling editor at the Balance imprint of Hachette Group. For the past 19 years\, her passion has been working with authors who speak to the diversity of lived experiences. Diana has always been drawn to strong voices in female empowerment/feminism\, identity & sexuality\, relationships\, LGBTQ+ rights\, psychology\, pop culture\, and trauma & mental health; believing that everyone has a story to tell and lessons to share. As an editor\, Diana partners with incredible individuals who are dedicated to starting bigger conversations and inspiring individual and collective healing. When she’s not working with authors\, you’ll find Diana working through the 5 plus books on her nightstand and yelling at her cat\, Phillip\, to stop knocking things off the shelf. She’s always excited to talk about all things yoga\, rock climbing and pizza. \nOrganized by the Yellow Studio Writing Club \n*This event was rescheduled from Tuesday January 27.

SUMMARY:SPARK Your Life: Story Medicine for Modern Women with Tambra McCarthy
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nA 3-Part Transformational Workshop Series  \nWe all carry stories. Some have shaped us. Others have caused us to dim our light\, or no longer fit. But now—you’re ready to reclaim your voice\, reconnect with your truth\, and ignite your next chapter. And the Fall season is the perfect time to shed. \nSPARK Your Life is a 3-week immersive experience for women ready to rise from the inside out. Through sacred storytelling\, mindfulness practices\, and creative expression\, you’ll be guided to release what no longer serves you—and step fully into the woman you are. \nEach 90-minute session blends guided breathwork + meditation\, reflective journaling\, and embodied writing/creating\, inviting you to explore the stories that live within your body and your voice. Through poetry\, monologue\, song\, artwork—even painting or movement—you’ll begin to reshape outdated narratives and reconnect with your inner fire. \nSpace is limited to 12 attendees.  \nThe Journey Unfolds Across Three Transformational Sessions:\nWeek 1: Uncover the Stories You Carry (Wednesday October 8)\nWe begin by creating a safe\, sacred space for self-expression and curiosity. Together we’ll explore the unconscious narratives that have shaped your identity—stories passed down\, picked up\, or held quietly for years. Through mindfulness and creative prompts\, you’ll begin to unravel what’s yours to keep\, and what’s ready to be released. \nFocus: Awareness\, clarity\, compassion\, community. \nWeek 2: Reclaim Your Voice\, Rewrite the Narrative (Wednesday October 15)\nThis week\, you’ll be guided through deeper embodiment practices—breath\, visualization\, intuitive writing—and creative rituals to reclaim your voice and reshape your story. You’ll meet your Wise Woman Within and begin to express yourself freely\, whether through words\, movement\, or creative form. \nFocus: Empowerment\, reframing\, self-expression\, authenticity. \nWeek 3: Embody & Share Your Truth in Sacred Circle (Wednesday October 22)\nOur final session is a powerful witnessing circle. In a supportive space\, you’ll have the opportunity to share a personal piece you’ve created—spoken\, sung\, written\, or visual. You’ll be seen\, celebrated\, and held as you step into your story not just as a narrator\, but as its author and embodiment. \nFocus: Integration\, visibility\, embodiment\, sacred community. \nWhat You’ll Experience:\n\nBreathwork\, grounding\, and visualization to quiet the mind and access inner wisdom\nJournaling and creative prompts to move your story from body to page or whatever form of self-expression you choose\nOpportunities to express through poetry\, painting\, monologue\, or music—no experience required\nA closing storytelling circle where you are witnessed and celebrated\nTake-home ritual prompts and a personal affirmation to support continued growth\n\nThis Workshop Series is For You If…\n\nYou’re ready to reconnect with your voice\, your creativity\, and your sacred truth\nYou’ve lived a life in service to\, or pleasing others and now want to come home to yourself\nYou’re navigating change\, transition\, or reinvention and seeking inner clarity\nYou long for a creative\, soulful space to reconnect with your inner fire and like-minded women\n\nYour story is sacred. Your voice is medicine. Your life is your art. Let this be your turning point to turn your light and your magic all the way UP! \nRegistration Fee: \nSupporter Members (20% discount): $140\nArtist & Community Members (10% discount): $157.50\nNon-Members (full price): $175\n  \nRegistration is now open. SUMMARY:Writing Club: Tools for Success - Media Training with Fran Hauser in Conversation with Lauren Schwarzfeld
DESCRIPTION:Imagine you finally have your book out in the world and you’re going on tour\, or that you’ve been invited to talk about your work on your favorite podcast – are you ready? How do you prepare for an interview? What takes a mediocre interview to an amazing interview that gets thousands (millions?) of views? How do you ensure that you’ll get invited back to talk about your second book?\n  \n\n\nOn May 21\, the Writing Club is excited to host Fran Hauser\, who has not only done all of the above\, but also regularly interviews writers and artists on her podcast\, Bookbound\, and elsewhere. Lauren Schwarzfeld will be moderating. Lauren recently produced a TEDx event where she coached speakers to engage and inspire. Fran and Lauren know what makes a successful interview and are ready to share. \nOraganized by Molly Felde \nSpace is limited to 10 attendees.  \nTickets:\nYS Members: Free\nNon YS Members: $25\n  \nAbout Fran Hauser\n  \n\nFran Hauser is a bestselling author\, keynote speaker\, champion of women in the workplace\, and a LinkedIn Top Voice. \nShe has spoken at over 200 organizations\, including Meta\, Google\, Unilever\, Blackrock\, NPR\, Mastercard\, and The Conference for Women. As a former Fortune 500 executive and active start-up investor – who has funded over 40 female-founded companies – Fran’s insights have appeared in media outlets including Forbes\, CNBC\, Fast Company\, Fortune\, Elle\, Refinery29\, and Business Insider. \nFran is the author of two books that have been hailed as modern-day bibles for professional women striving to create careers they love while staying true to themselves. The Myth of the Nice Girl (2018\, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) has been translated into nine languages and earned the prestigious title of “Best Business Book of the Year\, 2018” by Audible. Its runaway success formed the catalyst for her acclaimed thought-leadership platform. The follow-up workbook Embrace the Work\, Love Your Career (2022\, Collective Book Studio) has become the go-to curriculum for women’s affinity groups nationwide. \nFran’s publishing journey was so rewarding that she created Bookbound\, a platform dedicated to helping female non-fiction writers get published. Together with her partner\, Bethany Saltman\, the platform is anchored by the Bookbound podcast and offers additional resources such as a Substack\, book club\, and e-book. \nIn December 2024\, Fran opened Bedford Books\, the first-ever bookstore in her hometown of Bedford\, NY. The bookstore combines her passion for storytelling and community-building\, allowing her to support and inspire readers and writers alike. \nFran’s current work is informed by 15 years spent in media\, from startups where she played an integral role in the $525mm sale of Moviefone to AOL\, to ultimately rising the ranks at Time Inc. to President of Digital\, where she led innovation\, acquisitions and digital expansion for powerhouse media brands People\, InStyle\, Entertainment Weekly\, Essence\, and People en Espanol. \nFran is an advisor to Helpusadopt.org and LiveGirl. She lives outside NYC with her husband\, two sons\, and beloved mini Goldendoodle. \n  \nAbout Lauren Schwarzfeld \nLauren is the Chief Marketing Officer for Rise Literary\, a hybrid publisher and book coaching company. She has spent the past 25 years working in sales\, fundraising\, and marketing through various industries\, realizing that the most powerful part of a storied work history is the wide variety of human connection. In 2025 Lauren was the co-producer of TEDxOjai\, featuring 12 speakers through the daylong event in Ojai\, CA. She is endlessly curious\, a lover of books\, travel\, and new adventures. Lauren lives in Mt. Kisco\, NY.

SUMMARY:Book Club: Self-Portrait with Nothing by Aimee Pokwatka
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Book Club at Bedford Books on Tuesday March 25 at 6:30pm to discuss Self-Portrait with Nothing by Aimee Pokwatka\, current Yellow Studio Author-in-Residence. There will be lively discussion\, questions posed and answered and time to connect with fellow YS Members…and the author herself! That’s right\, Aimee will be joining us in-person for Book Club. \nThis is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLight refreshments will be available. \nMember RSVP required. \nThis book is sold out at Bedford Books! But you can purchase the book online here and have it shipped to you.  \n  \nAbout the Book \nOrphan Black meets Fringe in a story that reminds us that living our best life sometimes means embracing the imperfect one we already have. \n“Fraught and deeply moving…the work of a genuinely exciting new talent.” —Booker Prize winner\, George Saunders. \n“Aimee Pokwatka’s Self-Portrait with Nothing is tantalizing and elusive lacework\, delicately balanced between the branches of fantasy\, mystery and realism like a spider’s web.” —The New York Times\n\nIf a picture paints a thousand worlds . . . \nAbandoned as an infant on the local veterinarian’s front porch\, Pepper Rafferty was raised by two loving mothers\, and now\, at thirty-six is married to the stable\, supportive Ike. She’s never told anyone that at fifteen she discovered the identity of her biological mother. \nThat’s because her birth mother is Ula Frost\, a reclusive painter famous for the outrageous claims that her portraits summon their subjects’ doppelgängers from parallel universes. \nResearching the rumors\, Pepper couldn’t help but wonder: Is there a parallel universe in which she is more confident\, more accomplished\, better able to accept love? \nA universe in which Ula decided she was worth keeping? \nA universe in which Ula’s rejection didn’t still hurt too much to share? \nCombining a thrilling pan-continental race against time with an authentic and touching personal drama\, Self-Portrait with Nothing is an unforgettable debut that explores what it means to be part of a family. \nAbout the Author \nAimee Pokwatka grew up in Wheeling\, West Virginia. She studied anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro\, and received her MFA in creative writing from Syracuse University. Her debut novel\, Self-Portrait with Nothing was published in 2022 to wide acclaim. Her work has been published in Fairy Tale Review\, Outlook Springs\, Hunger Mountain\, and elsewhere. She lives in New York with her family. \n  \nLocation: \nBedford Books \n13 Court Rd \nBedford\, NY 10506
