SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Dreaming in Color
DESCRIPTION:Dreaming in Color features paintings and collages by Katy Ferrarone\, Allison Rietta and Emily Keating Snyder. Join us on Saturday September 14 from 4 to 6pm to see the show and celebrate the Artists. \nPlease RSVP. All are welcome. \n  \nAbout the Exhibition: \nThe Gallery at Yellow Studio is pleased to present “Dreaming in Color\,” a captivating exhibition featuring the works of Katy Ferrarone\, Emily Keating Snyder\, and Allison Rietta. This show explores the intersection of mindfulness\, color\, and geometric abstraction in contemporary art. The exhibition runs from September 14 to October 11\, with an opening reception on Saturday\, September 14 from 4-6pm. \nIn “Dreaming in Color\,” these three artists invite viewers into a world where meditation meets canvas. Ferrarone’s circular forms and repetitive marks map the landscape of the mind\, Keating Snyder’s embroidered canvases blend craft and fine art\, and Rietta’s geometric abstractions explore mystic patterns and sacred sounds. Each artist uses color as a powerful tool to evoke emotion and presence\, creating works that resonate on a deeply personal level. \nSelect images here. \nAbout the Artists: \nKaty Ferrarone is an American painter based in New York with a BFA from Syracuse University. Her work centers around mindfulness\, using color\, space\, and scale to depict emotions. Ferrarone’s paintings serve as maps of her mind’s experiences\, exploring how to maintain a mindful state. Her background as a yoga and meditation teacher informs her artistic practice\, using repetitive marks to quiet thoughts and remain present. Ferrarone has shown her paintings throughout the United States and Asia. For more information visit katyferrarone.com \nEmily Keating Snyder is a New York-based artist creating colorful abstract paintings that incorporate embroidery. A graduate of NYU\, Snyder’s work brings craft into fine art by stitching thread through canvas. Her minimalist\, textural paintings balance hard edges with soft fibers\, reflecting the mind’s push/pull between playful freedom and desire for order. Her art has been featured by Anthropologie\, Real Simple\, Emily Henderson\, Clever and Parachute Home. For more information visit emilykeatingsnyder.com \nAllison Rietta is an abstract painter based in Toronto\, Canada. Her paintings and collages explore mystic geometry\, symbols\, and patterns\, informed by her background in graphic design and spiritual practice of meditation and sound. Rietta’s work blends the inner and outer character traits of spirituality with the relationship between simple shapes and forms. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Toronto\, New York and London. For more information visit allisonrietta.com

SUMMARY:Creating Abstract Art with The Joy of Fall Palettes Workshop with Tricia Caracappa
DESCRIPTION:On September 19\, dive into the beauty of fall through the eyes of abstract art. \nLearn to mix vibrant\, warm autumn hues and create an abstract painting inspired by the landscape of the Northeast in the Fall…. apple orchards\, pumpkin patches\, rustic barns\, reservoirs with a backdrop of patchwork mountains\, dirt roads freckled with colorful leaves. \nWorkshop includes a canvas. Participants will also be given a palette knife and paintbrush to continue their color mixing journeys at home or back in their studios. \nBring your own inspirational photo or choose from one on hand to get you in the joyful mood of using fall color palettes and nature’s inspiration to create warm earthy abstract art. \nLight refreshments\, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. \n  \nAbout Tricia Caracappa:  \nTricia Caracappa is an artist and designer living in Katonah\, New York. Tricia received a BS in Systems Science Physics from Providence College\, with a strong focus in Studio Art. After declining a masters of architecture program\, she began a full career in financial services and continued to study at the Art Students League of New York. \nAfter two decades in corporate\, she listened to her internal creative compass and received an AAS in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design\, while working full time and raising a family. She retired from corporate and launched her interior design business. \nShortly after she was asked a pivotal question\, “If you were in a room filled with opportunities and success were guaranteed\, what would you?” Her answer and action were immediate\,” ARTIST.” Today she follows what absolutely lights her up – making beautiful\, energetic art that reminds her to live life fully with ease and delight\, joy and peace\, not pressure or stress. \nHer art studio is in tucked into the 19th century brick lined Yellow Monkey Village in Cross River\, New York. Nature\, movement\, color and beauty inform her curiosity\, play and flow in the studio where she finds freedom in the abstract and grounding in form. \nTricia is on the board of the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association\, has exhibited in various group shows\, including Life Perceived\, Opposing Forces and Rhyme\, Rhythm and Harmony\, participated in local events such as Larchmont Art on the Avenues\, and had her first solo show at Yellow Studio Gallery in October 2023. SUMMARY:Book Club: The Order of Things by Sarah Gormley
DESCRIPTION:New book alert! The Order of Things will be released on September 10…you can pre-order your book on Amazon here. \nJoin us for Book Club at Yellow Studio on Tuesday October 1 at 6:30pm. There will be lively discussion\, questions posed and answered and time to connect with fellow YS Members. This is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard (and we will have a very special guest via Zoom…the author herself\, Sarah Gormley!) \nLight refreshments will be available. \nAbout the book: \nWhat happens when a marketing executive leaves San Francisco to care for her dying mother on their family farm in Ohio? A Hallmark heroine would fall in love with her high school sweetheart during a snowstorm-but this is no Hallmark movie. Sarah Gormley spent most of her life trying to outrun the persistent self-loathing that plagued her from childhood\, convinced that self-worth was something she had to earn by doing rather than being. When she returned to Salt Creek Farm at age forty-five\, Gormley had no idea that detaching from the success she believed defined her\, untangling the complicated relationship with her mother\, and continuing the hard work of therapy would lead to a wildly transformed life. Told with exceptional candor and humor\, The Order of Things is a story about how one woman learned to let go of the patterns of her past to create a future she never imagined. Ultimately\, Gormley’s book is about hope\, with a powerful message that will inspire you to think about the possibility of change in your own life. \nAbout Sarah Gormley: \nSarah Gormley owns a contemporary art gallery\, Sarah Gormley Gallery (SGG)\, in Columbus\, Ohio that operates from the belief that original art can be a source of joy for everyone. She opened the gallery in 2019\, 25 years after her grandmother gifted Sarah with her first piece of art when she graduated from DePauw University. Sarah’s undergraduate degree reinforced an early love for literature and writing\, with a heavy sprinkling of the liberal arts fairy dust that teaches you how to think\, analyze and articulate a clear point of view. \nThat foundation was rounded out by concentrations in marketing and operations at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Her marketing career included both agency work and in-house roles with global brands including IMAX\, Martha Stewart\, Girl Scouts of the USA and Adobe. Sarah was honored as one of 2015’s Forty Women to Watch Over 40\, a list that celebrates women who are upending the perception that 40 is past your prime. She has also been featured in Forbes and The CMO Club. \nIn June of 2019\, Gormley was selected to speak at her 25th class reunion at DePauw University. After she spoke\, a woman Sarah had never met approached her and said\, “You should write a book.” Turns out that woman was celebrated author Meg Kissinger\, a fact Sarah learned only after she asked Meg if she might consider offering a praise quote for The Order of Things – because life is just funny that way.

SUMMARY:Nature & Sustainability Club x Our Swap Shoppe: Swap 'Til You Drop
DESCRIPTION:The Yellow Studio Nature & Sustainability Club will co-host a women’s clothing swap on Thursday\, October 24 with local mom and sustainability advocate Kayla Kaplowitz\, founder of Our Swap Shoppe. Celebrate the International Day of Climate Action by swapping your pre-loved clothes and accessories for something “new.” \nThe average American buys 64 items of clothing and 7 pairs of shoes per year — 5x more than in 1980. Swapping your clothes helps to reduce textile waste\, encourages you to downsize your wardrobe responsibly\, and ensures your pre-loved items will find a good home. \nParticipants are asked to bring up to 10 pre-loved but good-condition Fall clothing and/or accessories and a tote bag. Dresses and blouses should be on hangers. This is not a 1:1 swap; it’s first-come first-served! Unwanted items will be donated to Dress for Success and The Community Center of Northern Westchester. \nLight bites and wine will be served\, and there will be plenty of clothing racks and tables to display each item. \nDue to space constraints\, this event is limited to 40 women. \nNot a YS Member and curious about joining? Learn more and join here. \nArtist\, Social and All Access YS Member (20% discount): $20\nCommunity YS Member (10% discount): $22.50\nNon YS Member: $25

SUMMARY:Art Club: Excursion to the Hudson River Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join the Art Club as we explore the Hudson River Museum! We are excited to see and discuss the current shows\, No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor and It Takes 2: Unexpected Pairings. There will also likely be time to explore other exhibitions independently. \nAbout No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor \nSimply put\, clothing is what we put on our bodies. We use it both to cover up and to reveal ourselves. It is also a tool we use to understand others. As an artistic medium\, it embodies the tension between opposing forces—private experience and mass consumption\, form and function\, empowerment and vulnerability\, personal expression and cultural expectation. Through bodiless artworks that reimagine and transform clothing\, No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor offers a multitude of societal portraits and invites visitors to engage with the intimate narratives they evoke. \nThe artists in No Bodies use clothing to play with assumptions about materiality and cultural identity\, and as a vehicle for social and political activism. In Shroud\, a sea of suspended shirts\, Rachel Breen asks us to stand in solidarity with garment workers. Inscribed on Patrick Carroll’s t-shirt\, created in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade\, are the ingredients of historical abortifacients. Rose Deler points up the cruelty of immigration policy with children’s garments fashioned from the Mylar rescue blankets given to migrants at the U.S. border. In Jesse Krimes’s quilt Skyline\, an inmate’s memories of wellbeing are retained in spite of the oppression of the prison-industrial complex. The beads in Erica Lord’s loom-woven burden strap replicate the pixel-like format of DNA analysis of diseases affecting Indigenous communities. And Karen Shaw transforms a sports jersey into a hoop shirt—a winking reference to a hoop skirt—that subverts gender norms and blends masculine and feminine elements. \nNo Bodies reveals how clothing can convey deeply personal stories while critiquing broader systems of production and regulation. Disrupting familiar clothing conventions\, the artists illustrate how personal expression can reshape cultural and social norms. Their works unravel our presumptions about clothing\, the stories it can carry\, and the psychological weight it can bear. No Bodies asks us to reconsider clothing as not merely attire\, or fashion\, but a dynamic expression of both personal and collective identities. \nFeatured Artists\nReginald Dwayne Betts • John Boone • Marsha Borden • Rachel Breen • Chris Burden • Patrick Carroll • Susan Clinard • Hannah Conradt • E.V. Day • Rose Deler • Lesley Dill • Anindita Dutta • Giannina Dwin • Carlos Estévez • Kathryn Frund • Jonathan Herrera Soto • Jesse Krimes • Robert Kushner • Ruth Lingen • Erica Lord • Whitfield Lovell • Adriana Marmorek • Senga Nengudi • Carol Paik • Sidney Russell • Barbara Ségal • Karen Shaw • Jaune Quick-to-See Smith • Micki Watanabe Spiller • Cindy Tower • Cybèle Young\nCurated by independent curator Alva Greenberg. \n  \nAbout It Takes 2: Unexpected Pairings \nThese unlikely companions\, drawn from the HRM collection\, loans from Art Bridges\, and private collections\, span different centuries\, cultures\, and media. Their juxtaposition may reveal overlapping frames of reference\, draw out previously unnoticed dimensions\, or challenge preconceived notions of universality. \nIn the eight pairings featured here\, each explored under a different theme\, the artworks stand on their own and also hold a mirror to one another. One poignant pairing reveals two striking explorations of love. Felix Gonzalez-Torres’s “Untitled” (L.A.)\, 1991\, is installed near an ornate wedding platter from the 1870s. Gonzalez-Torres’s candy-spill work dates from the same year he lost his beloved partner to an AIDS-related illness and is a testament to their relationship. The ceramic dish\, produced by W. T. Copeland & Sons\, features wedding vows as part of its decoration\, including “in sickness and in health\, to love and to cherish\, till death do us part.” The platter was made to hold food for wedding guests\, just as Gonzalez-Torres meant for visitors to consume the commemorative candy. \nIn other juxtapositions\, works by Georgia O’Keeffe and Andy Warhol invite us to consider organic forms we can encounter everyday from a fresh perspective\, and Winslow Homer’s watercolor of a Florida coastal scene and Catherine Latson’s sculptural dress made of shells suggest changing relationships to nature. Finally\, the fantasy realm of children’s play provides a vehicle for artists JooYoung Choi and Mark O’Banks to rewrite history\, to upend social injustices through invented worlds and very different artistic sensibilities. \nAs we continue our commitment to presenting the Museum’s collection in new and exciting ways\, these comparisons provide opportunities to extract new readings and perspectives on art and artists\, past and present. \nFeatured Artists\nMark Bradford • JooYoung Choi • Felix Gonzalez-Torres • Winslow Homer • Donald Judd • Catherine Latson • Paul Manship • Mark O’Banks • Georgia O’Keeffe • Joe Overstreet • Shizu Saldamando • Joan Snyder • Rigoberto Torres • Andy Warhol • W.T. Copeland & Sons \nSeveral works in this exhibition are generously lent by Art Bridges\, Bentonville\, Arkansas\, as part of the Art Bridges’ Partner Loan Network initiative. \n\nEvent Details:\n\nDate: Friday\, November 8\nTime: Meet at Yellow Studio at 11am for an early lunch at The Whitlock in Katonah (we will drive to the restaurant together) and carpool to the Hudson River Museum or meet at the Hudson River Museum at 1:30pm.\n\nTravel Information:\n\nTo join the group for lunch at The Whitlock and carpool to the Hudson River Museum\, please email tina@yellowstudiony.com. SUMMARY:Book Club: The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Book Club at Yellow Studio on Tuesday December 3 at 6:30pm to discuss The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. There will be lively discussion\, questions posed and answered and time to connect with fellow YS Members. This is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLight refreshments will be available. \nAbout the book: \n“Welcome to the family\,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant\, manicured hand. I smile politely\, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own… \nEvery day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor. \nI try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes\, so full of pain\, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet\, the fancy car\, the perfect husband. \nI only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside\, it’s far too late. \nBut I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am. \nThey don’t know what I’m capable of… \nAn unbelievably twisty read that will have you glued to the pages late into the night. Anyone who loves The Woman in the Window\, The Wife Between Us and The Girl on the Train won’t be able to put this down! \n  \nAbout Freida McFadden: \n#1 New York Times\, Amazon Charts\, USA Today\, Washington Post\, Wall Street Journal\, Sunday Times\, and Publisher’s Weekly bestselling author Freida McFadden is a physician specializing in brain injury who has penned multiple bestselling psychological thrillers and medical humor novels. Freida’s work has been selected as one of Amazon Editors’ best books of the year\, she is the winner of the International Thriller Writers Award for best paperback\, and she is a Goodreads Choice Award winner. Her novels have been translated into 40 languages. \nFreida lives with her family and cat in a centuries-old three-story home overlooking the ocean\, with staircases that creak and moan with each step\, and nobody could hear you if you scream. Unless you scream really loudly\, maybe.
