Read more and become an Artist Member here.\n\n\nJuror: Tina Villaveces\, Founder & Director of Yellow Studio\n\nJuror Bio: Tina Villaveces is a recent Brooklyn transplant who has dedicated the majority of her career to the arts. Having spent almost a decade working in commercial art galleries and museums in NYC\, she has a deep appreciation for those who create and a strong sense of commitment for authenticity. Tina finds joy in learning and discovering\, which she makes her routine by connecting and supporting women at Yellow Studio. \nTina has an MA in Museum Studies with a concentration in Contemporary Art from NYU and a BA in Art History with minors in Architecture and French from Trinity College in Hartford\, CT. \nTina worked at Pace Gallery\, Sean Kelly\, James Cohan and D’Amelio Terras\, plus interned at numerous museums including the MoMA\, Guggenheim and Whitney. She also worked as a Project Manager at Pentagram. Most recently\, she did a stint at The Aldrich in Ridgefield and volunteered at the Katonah Museum of Art. DESCRIPTION:The Yellow Studio Nature & Sustainability Club will co-host a women’s clothing swap on Thursday\, October 24 with local mom and sustainability advocate Kayla Kaplowitz\, founder of Our Swap Shoppe. Celebrate the International Day of Climate Action by swapping your pre-loved clothes and accessories for something “new.” \nThe average American buys 64 items of clothing and 7 pairs of shoes per year — 5x more than in 1980. Swapping your clothes helps to reduce textile waste\, encourages you to downsize your wardrobe responsibly\, and ensures your pre-loved items will find a good home. \nParticipants are asked to bring up to 10 pre-loved but good-condition Fall clothing and/or accessories and a tote bag. Dresses and blouses should be on hangers. This is not a 1:1 swap; it’s first-come first-served! She currently lives in Easton\, CT. She is an internationally recognized art photographer with an extensive multi-national exhibition record. She holds an MFA from Yale University\, a BFA from\nMinneapolis College of Art & Design\, as well as a Forensic Photography Certification from Metro-Dade in Miami Florida. \nAngela’s work has been exhibited in many galleries and museums including The Guggenheim Museum\, The Whitney Museum\, The National Museum of Women in the Arts\, The Art Institute of Chicago\, Yale University Art Gallery\, The Walker Art Center\, The Israel Museum in Jerusalem\, Musee de l’Elysee in Lausanne in Switzerland\, Museum of Modern Art (MAC/VAL) in Paris\, and the Wellcome Trust Collection in London. She was featured in the Whitney Biennial in 2006. Her work appears in many books including ReGeneration\, 50 Photographers of Tomorrow (Thames & Hudson)\, and Role Models (Scala). She recently produced the cover image and story for Time Magazine’s first issue covering the CoronaVirus Pandemic. Other publications include New York Times Magazine\, Harper’s Bazaar\, Exit\, Wired\, Art Pulse\, and Mossless. She has received awards including Women in Photography LTI Lightside Grant\, Bush Fellowship\, McKnight Fellowship\, Jerome Fellowship. Her work is included in many public and private collections including those of the Art Institute of Chicago\, The Whitney Museum of Art\, Yale University Art Museum\, The Israel Museum\, General Mills\, Sir Elton John\, Anthony Podesta\, Andrew Hecht and Peter Norton. \nCurrently\, Angela is working on a series of portraits through a two-way mirror titled Slow Tears & Fast Prayers. She is inviting people to come sit for a moment of vulnerability and to share a deep part of themselves while listening to a short playlist that each sitter has created for themself.

SUMMARY:Art Club: Excursion to the Hudson River Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join the Art Club as we explore the Hudson River Museum! We are excited to see and discuss the current shows\, No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor and It Takes 2: Unexpected Pairings. There will also likely be time to explore other exhibitions independently. \nAbout No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor \nSimply put\, clothing is what we put on our bodies. We use it both to cover up and to reveal ourselves. It is also a tool we use to understand others. As an artistic medium\, it embodies the tension between opposing forces—private experience and mass consumption\, form and function\, empowerment and vulnerability\, personal expression and cultural expectation. Through bodiless artworks that reimagine and transform clothing\, No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor offers a multitude of societal portraits and invites visitors to engage with the intimate narratives they evoke. \nThe artists in No Bodies use clothing to play with assumptions about materiality and cultural identity\, and as a vehicle for social and political activism. In Shroud\, a sea of suspended shirts\, Rachel Breen asks us to stand in solidarity with garment workers. Inscribed on Patrick Carroll’s t-shirt\, created in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade\, are the ingredients of historical abortifacients. Rose Deler points up the cruelty of immigration policy with children’s garments fashioned from the Mylar rescue blankets given to migrants at the U.S. border. In Jesse Krimes’s quilt Skyline\, an inmate’s memories of wellbeing are retained in spite of the oppression of the prison-industrial complex. The beads in Erica Lord’s loom-woven burden strap replicate the pixel-like format of DNA analysis of diseases affecting Indigenous communities. Their juxtaposition may reveal overlapping frames of reference\, draw out previously unnoticed dimensions\, or challenge preconceived notions of universality. \nIn the eight pairings featured here\, each explored under a different theme\, the artworks stand on their own and also hold a mirror to one another. One poignant pairing reveals two striking explorations of love. Felix Gonzalez-Torres’s “Untitled” (L.A.)\, 1991\, is installed near an ornate wedding platter from the 1870s. Gonzalez-Torres’s candy-spill work dates from the same year he lost his beloved partner to an AIDS-related illness and is a testament to their relationship. The ceramic dish\, produced by W. T. Copeland & Sons\, features wedding vows as part of its decoration\, including “in sickness and in health\, to love and to cherish\, till death do us part.” The platter was made to hold food for wedding guests\, just as Gonzalez-Torres meant for visitors to consume the commemorative candy. \nIn other juxtapositions\, works by Georgia O’Keeffe and Andy Warhol invite us to consider organic forms we can encounter everyday from a fresh perspective\, and Winslow Homer’s watercolor of a Florida coastal scene and Catherine Latson’s sculptural dress made of shells suggest changing relationships to nature. She taught art in New York public schools until 2019. Join the Nature & Sustainability Club for a scenic hike on November 18 at 9:30am followed by mid-morning scones\, provided by 351 Bakery\, and coffee and tea at Yellow Studio. \nWe’ll be heading to Ward Pound Ridge for a group hike\, starting at the Trailside Nature Museum for a cool fall 1.5 mile hike. \nWard Pound Ridge Reservation sprawls across 4\,700 acres of countryside\, making it the largest park in Westchester County. Its landscape offers a diverse terrain\, with everything from deep hollows to towering ridges reaching heights of up to 800 feet. \nWithin the reservation\, you’ll encounter a rich variety of natural features\, including hemlock gorges\, dry uplands\, wetlands\, ponds\, and two winding rivers. Connecting these natural wonders are 35 miles of scenic trails\, allowing visitors to wander through meadows\, marshes\, and vernal pools. \nWe will meet outside the Trailside Nature Museum at 9:30am. \nPlease enter the park through the main entrance (no parking fee required) at Route 121 just south of Route 35\, and drive to the museum. It is located in the middle of the reservation on the south side of Reservation Road\, and parking is located nearby. After graduating from the University of Michigan\, Jessica studied at the School of Visual Arts and at the Art Students League in New York\, with legendary painter Hananiah Harari\, later\ncontinuing her studies with acclaimed portrait and landscape artist Andrew Lattimore. DESCRIPTION:FILM CLUB! It’s like a book club…but with movies! \nThe Yellow Studio Film Club is a group of women who are interested in watching and discussing female-centric stories that have been on the big screen. Each month\, a different film will be chosen – selections will vary in terms of genre and time period but will always involve a female-centric theme and/or be written and/or directed by a woman. Once a month the group will meet to discuss the various aspects of the chosen film. Meetings will be informal and open to any YS Member who has a passion\, interest and/or curiosity about movies.  \nOur first meeting on Tuesday December 17 at 7:30pm will be a time for all interested parties to introduce themselves and to share what they’re hoping to get out of the group and to discuss screening options – from occasional theater outings to the flexibility of watching at home. Upon graduation she was a finalist for the HBO/DGA directing fellowship. Beth resides in Cross River with her son and husband.

She earned a degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design and a Bachelor of Science from Providence College\, and studied at the Art Students League in New York. After a twenty year career at a global financial firm\, she left corporate for the creative. She launched Tricia Caracappa Design\, doing residential interior design and now she is a full time artist. Known for her use of colors and playful brushstrokes\, Tricia’s art invites you to experience a world of inspiration\, energy and following what lights you up. \nTricia’s art has been exhibited in solo and group shows\, and is in private collections across the country. She currently serves on the board of the Katonah Museum of Artists’ Association. Tricia lives with her family in Katonah\, NY and creates from her studio tucked into the 19th century brick lined Yellow Monkey Village in Cross River\, NY\, just upstairs from the Yellow Studio Gallery\, where she will have her next solo show in September 2025. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday January 11 from 4 to 6pm for the opening of Living Color featuring mobiles by Yuko Nishikawa\, wall sculptures by Deborah Hesse and paintings by Courtney Alan Rossy. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION \nThe Gallery at Yellow Studio presents Living Color\, a dynamic exhibition where artworks evolve and transform before viewers’ eyes. Running January 11 through February 7\, 2025\, this innovative showcase features artists Deborah Hesse\, Yuko Nishikawa\, and Courtney Alan Rossy\, each exploring the fluid nature of artistic creation through distinct approaches to movement and change. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday\, January 11 from 4 to 6pm. \nThrough light-based constructions\, kinetic installations\, and layered paintings\, these three artists activate the gallery space in compelling ways.
