SUMMARY:The Yellow Show in The Co-Op at Yellow Studio
DESCRIPTION:For The Yellow Show Open Call\, Yellow Studio invited women artists working across all media to submit work that engages with yellow in unexpected ways. \n\n\nYellow defies simple meaning. It signals joy and caution\, abundance and decay\, clarity and hazard. It’s sacred gold and rubber gloves\, daffodils and taxi cabs. \n\n\nThis open call invited artists to investigate yellow in all its complexity: as pigment\, symbol\, cultural signifier\, emotional landscape\, and more. \nWhat does yellow mean to you? What does it reveal? Come see for yourself\, from February 27 to May 10.  \nPreview and purchase artwork from The Yellow Show here on our website. In the “Collections” dropdown menu\, please select “The Yellow Show.” \nVenue: The Co-Op and Beehive at Yellow Studio (curated retail space)\n792 Route 35\, Cross River\, New York 10518 \nHours:\nWednesday: 11 to 5\nThursday: 11 to 5\nFriday: 11 to 6\nSaturday: 11 to 5\nSunday: 12 to 4\n\n\n \nExhibition Format: This is a retail exhibition where selected artworks will be available for immediate purchase and pickup. Unlike traditional gallery shows\, this is an ongoing sales exhibition integrated into our retail environment.\n\nDisplay Rotation: Accepted works may rotate in and out of display as pieces sell and new work is hung. Not all accepted pieces will be visible at the same time.\n \nExhibition Period: February 27 to May 10

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Said in Color featuring Giselle Landers and Alissa Leigh
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Yellow Studio presents Said in Color\, an exhibition of paintings and wall relief sculptures by Alissa Leigh and Giselle Landers\, on view April 25 to May 24\, 2025. Color is a language\, and these two abstract painters each speak it with a different accent\, arriving at bold\, expressive work from opposite directions. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday\, April 25\, from 4 to 6pm. RSVPs encouraged.  \nBoth artists draw color inspiration from the everyday world: textiles\, product packaging\, movie posters\, and the textures of city life. Leigh builds her mixed media works around a loosely drawn grid\, layering and scraping surfaces so that earlier marks shape what follows. Landers approaches abstraction through the lens of graphic design\, moving each piece from sketch to digital process before it reaches canvas or three-dimensional form. Her paintings and wall relief sculptures pull from a wide visual archive\, including modernist architecture\, hieroglyphics\, and pop culture imagery. The contrast between their methods is as much the point as the connection. \nPreview a selection of artwork from Said in Color here on the Exhibition page.  \nPreview and purchase artwork from the exhibition here. From the “Collections” dropdown menu\, please select “Said in Color.” \n  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nGiselle Landers is an artist and former graphic designer whose abstract paintings and wall relief sculptures explore the intersection of art and design. She earned a BFA from Syracuse University and a Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts in London\, and has exhibited in group shows in London\, New York\, and Connecticut. In 2026\, she was selected for the Canopy Program\, where she mentors under artist Erika Ranee. Landers serves on the board of the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association and lives and works in Greenwich\, Connecticut. \nAlissa Leigh is a mixed media abstract painter based in Bedford\, New York. She has presented solo exhibitions at Chroma Gallery in Katonah\, NY\, shown in group exhibitions throughout the greater New York and Connecticut area\, and has exhibited in the  Armonk Outdoor Art Show for three consecutive years. Her work is held in private collections across the United States and Europe.

SUMMARY:Book Club: Lady Tremaine by Rachel Hochhauser
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Book Club at Bedford Books on Tuesday April 28 at 6:30pm to discuss Lady Tremaine by Rachel Hochhauser. Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLight refreshments will be available. \nMember RSVP required. \nThis book is available for purchase at Bedford Books! You can also purchase the book on the Bedford Books website here and have it shipped to you. \n  \nAbout the Book \nTwice-widowed\, Lady Etheldreda Verity Isolde Tremaine Bramley is solely responsible for her two children\, a priggish stepdaughter\, a razor-taloned peregrine falcon\, and a crumbling manor. Fierce and determined\, Ethel clings to the respectability her deceased husband’s title affords her\, hoping it will secure her daughters’ future through marriage. \nWhen a royal ball offers the chance to change everything\, Ethel risks her pride in pursuit of an invitation for all three of her daughters—only to see her hopes fulfilled by the wrong one. As an engagement to the future king unfolds\, Ethel discovers a sordid secret hidden in the depths of the royal family\, forcing her to choose between the security she craves and the wellbeing of the stepdaughter who has rebuffed her at every turn. \nAs if Bridgerton met Circe\, and exhilarating to its core\, Lady Tremaine reimagines the myth of the evil stepmother at the heart of the world’s most famous fairy tale. It is a battle cry for a mother’s love for her daughters\, and a celebration of women everywhere who make their own fortunes. \n  \nAbout the Author \nRachel Hochhauser grew up in Santa Barbara\, California. She attended New York University and earned a master’s in professional writing from the University of Southern California. Currently\, she lives in Portland\, Oregon with her husband and two daughters. Lady Tremaine is her first novel.

SUMMARY:Networking Club: Spring Reset
DESCRIPTION:Join us May 12 at 6:30pm for a Spring Reset and an invitation to come back to yourself. \nSo much of how we live\, react\, and relate is shaped by the state of our nervous system. When we begin to understand and support our system\, we create the conditions for real change. \nMolly Carmel\, therapist and healer\, will be in conversation with Lauren Porté Schwarzfeld for an intimate and interactive discussion exploring the nervous system\, self-connection\, and what it takes to feel steady in an unsteady world. \nThe experience will close with a guided sound healing ceremony using traditional metal singing bowls from Bhutan. This Spring-focused healing is designed to support release\, renewal\, and new beginnings\, helping the body settle\, integrate\, and open to what is next. \nWe hope you’ll join us!  \n  \nAbout Molly Carmel \nMolly Carmel\, LCSW\, is a highly trained addictions and eating disorders therapist\, spiritual teacher\, and integrative healer with 25 years of experience helping people break painful patterns and reconnect with themselves. SUMMARY:Nature & Sustainability Club: Re-Wilding Workshop - Weave\, Gather\, Create with Rebecca Rivard
DESCRIPTION:Join the Yellow Studio Nature & Sustainability Club on Wednesday\, May 13 at 6pm for Re-Wilding Workshop: Weave\, Gather\, Create with Rebecca Rivard. This hands-on outdoor workshop is centered on creativity\, sustainability\, and connection to the natural world. \nSet against the landscape of Ward Pound Ridge\, this special gathering invites you to slow down and create a small woven pouch using thrifted and secondhand yarns and fibers\, along with simple recycled cardboard looms. \n As part of the experience\, we’ll spend time exploring and gently foraging for natural materials—twigs\, grasses\, leaves\, and found elements—that can be woven into your piece or used as unique closures and finishing details. \nInspired by the idea of re-wilding\, this workshop encourages a return to intuitive making\, using what is around us and reimagining discarded materials with care and creativity. No prior weaving experience is needed—just a willingness to explore\, experiment\, and connect. \nParticipants will leave with a one-of-a-kind woven pouch and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of natural and repurposed materials. \n  \nAbout Rebecca Rivard \nRebecca Rivard is a multidisciplinary artist\, painter\, and composer working across paint\, sound\, and mixed media. Rooted in experimentation and intuitive process\, her work often incorporates natural and repurposed materials\, guided in part by an interest in “rewilding”\, returning materials and methods to a more tactile\, instinctive state. She brings this same spirit of curiosity and openness into her workshops\, encouraging participants to explore\, experiment\, and engage with materials in new ways.

SUMMARY:Finding the Language for Your Work: An Interactive Workshop with Corrie Jackson
DESCRIPTION:Join Yellow Studio and Corrie Jackson\, writer and editor on Thursday\, May 14 at 10am for an interactive workshop\, Finding the Language for Your Work: Clear Words for Your Website\, Bio\, and Beyond. \nWriting about your work can be surprisingly difficult. Many creatives and small business owners know exactly what they do—until they have to articulate it for a website\, bio\, or social profile. The result? Flat\, vague language—and a missed opportunity to connect with the right audience. \nCorrie will share an editor’s approach to sharpening the language around your work or business. We’ll uncover how vague phrasing sneaks in\, develop the one-sentence anchor that makes describing what you do dramatically easier\, and explore how to write for someone new to your work or business. Participants are invited to bring a short piece of writing—such as a website introduction\, bio\, or statement—and we’ll refine it together through live editing. \nYou’ll leave with clearer language\, and the tools you need to communicate what you do with confidence. \nGet tickets today! \nYS Supporter Member: $20 (20% discount) \nYS Artist & Community Member: $22.50 (10% discount) \nNon-member: $25 (full price) \nAbout Corrie:\nCorrie Jackson is a writer and editor with 25 years’ experience shaping language for magazines\, books\, and brands. She spent over a decade as a journalist and editor\, including roles at Harper’s Bazaar\, the Daily Mail\, and Glamour\, and has written for publications including Forbes\, The Times\, Marie Claire\, and Sunday Times Style. She is also a published author and non-fiction book editor. Today she works as a copywriter and creative strategist for brands ranging from local (oHHo\, Prelove You) to national (Boll & Branch\, Popflex\, Letterfolk\, Onsen)\, helping founders\, creatives\, and companies sharpen their language.

SUMMARY:Said in Color: Artists' Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, May 16 at 2pm to learn more about the artistic practices\, process\, and influences of Giselle Landers and Alissa Leigh.  \nAbout the Exhibition \nThe Gallery at Yellow Studio presents Said in Color\, an exhibition of paintings and wall relief sculptures by Alissa Leigh and Giselle Landers\, on view April 25 to May 24\, 2025. Color is a language\, and these two abstract painters each speak it with a different accent\, arriving at bold\, expressive work from opposite directions. \nAbout the Artists \nGiselle Landers is an artist and former graphic designer whose abstract paintings and wall relief sculptures explore the intersection of art and design.

DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Yellow Studio invited women and non-binary artists to submit work that challenges conventional perceptions of fiber art. We selected work demonstrating innovative approaches that expand the medium’s possibilities; work that complicates boundaries between decoration and concept\, tradition and innovation\, or material and meaning. This exhibition showcases fiber art as a site of experimentation\, examining how artists reimagine thread\, fabric\, rope\, and other fibrous materials as vehicles for critical inquiry\, spatial intervention\, technological integration\, or performative practice. \nMore information coming soon.

SUMMARY:Book Club: Accumulation by Aimee Pokwatka
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, June 16 at 6:30pm for a special book club gathering at Aimee Pokwatka’s home in Cross River. We will be discussing her latest novel\, Accumulation. There will be time to ask questions\, plus a tour of the house (and its ghosts) that inspired the book! \nThis is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLocation address given upon Member RSVP \nLight refreshments will be available. \nMember RSVP required. \nThis book is available for purchase at Bedford Books! You can also purchase the book on the Bedford Books website here and have it shipped to you. \nAbout the Book\nA twisty\, searing\, conversation-starting novel about a filmmaker-turned-housewife who moves into her dream house and is forced to consider whether it’s the house or herself that is haunted. \nWhen documentary filmmaker turned stay-at-home mom Tennessee Cherish moves into the the dream house her husband bought for her\, a brighter future seems to be on the horizon. Even if her husband is frustratingly absent due to his new high-paying job. Even if their two young children begin acting out in strange ways. Even if she feels lonelier than ever. \nDistracted by the endless details that come with moving into a new town\, a new house\, and new schools\, Tenn doesn’t notice when odd things begin happening at home. The faucet that runs at all hours. The creepy doll that seems to show up in every room. The human tooth they found in the floorboards. \nAs the kids’ outbursts and the strange events start to escalate\, the family finds themselves increasingly caught in loops\, repeating everyday actions with dangerous—and then devastating—effects. Tenn realizes she must find the source of what is haunting her family\, before it kills them all. \nTaut and twisty\, scary and searing\, Aimee Pokwatka’s Accumulation lays bare the high price women pay for the promises of domesticity and motherhood\, and the many ways in which families can be haunted. \n  \nAbout the Author \nAimee Pokwatka is the author of the genre-bending novels Accumulation\, Self-Portrait with Nothing\, and The Parliament. Born and raised in Wheeling\, West Virginia\, she studied anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro\, where she helped catalog a collection of archaic-period human skeletal remains. She received her MFA in creative writing from Syracuse University. She has also taught writers of all ages\, and served as the editor of Salt Hill Journal and The Newtowner. She is an active member at Yellow Studio\, where she can often be found writing in her studio in the attic. She lives in a haunted house in New York with her family.
