SUMMARY:Writing Club
DESCRIPTION:Working on a writing project and want some accountability? Join us once a month in the Gallery for dedicated writing time. We’ll spend the first hour writing\, then come together for discussion. \nIf you’ve been wanting to turn your thoughts into words but find it hard to get started\, these sessions are a supportive place to begin. \nHosted by Molly Felde & Aimee Pokwatka \nFor YSAC members. \nRSVP required. \nAbout Molly Felde: \nMolly is an Architect by training with a focus on the design process. She fell in love with writing when she began her memoir\, At the Edge. One of the best parts of the writing journey is the community and friendships that result through shared work\, feedback\, and experiences. At the Edge\, currently out for submission\, is about her experiences teaching architecture at a university in Papua New Guinea where she was transformed from architect to teacher\, from foreigner to wantok — the local term for family — and how teaching the creative process in Papua New Guinea altered her post-colonial perspective. Told through the lens of design At the Edge examines the relationship between creativity\, education\, identity and community. She has recently begun publishing her writing on Substack. Molly now lives in Katonah\, NY\, with her husband\, and two sons and enjoys all things creative. \n  \nAbout Aimee Pokwatka: \nAimee is the USA Today bestselling author of the novels Self-Portrait with Nothing\, The Parliament\, and Accumulation. Born and raised in West Virginia\, she studied anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received her MFA in creative writing from Syracuse University. She has also taught writers of all ages\, edited literary magazines\, and currently offers manuscript consultations and book coaching. She lives in New York with her sons.

SUMMARY:Solstice Yule Log Workshop with Rebecca Dunn
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Yellow Studio Arts Center for a cozy\, creative evening inspired by one of winter’s oldest traditions. The Yule log is an ancient winter solstice custom: a specially chosen log was burned in the hearth to welcome the return of the sun\, protect the home\, and mark the turning of the season. \nTaking inspiration from that tradition\, we’ll create modern\, decorative Yule logs using dried botanicals\, leaves\, citrus slices\, candles\, and other foraged and seasonal materials\, building a piece that feels personal\, organic\, and entirely your own.  All materials are provided. \nWe’ll also give beautiful things a second life: if you’d like\, bring small pieces of discarded artwork\, paper scraps\, or experiments you no longer plan to use\, and we’ll use decorative punches to turn them into stars\, shapes\, and other details to weave into your Yule log. This is completely optional. \nThis is a relaxed\, hands-on workshop with plenty of room to experiment\, and no experience is needed. You’ll leave with a handmade Yule log to display all winter\, plus fresh ideas for bringing foraged\, natural\, and repurposed materials into your own creative practice. \nAbout Rebecca: \nRebecca Dunn is a YSAC member and artist whose work reflects a deep sensitivity to color\, atmosphere\, and composition\, developed through years of observation and experimentation. A mentorship with renowned landscape painter Phyllis Shafer in Lake Tahoe\, California\, further shaped her approach to light\, structure\, and emotional resonance within the landscape. Her practice continues to evolve with every piece she creates\, with each body of work informing the next. Her work has recently been exhibited at The Granite in Georgetown\, CT\, Yellow Studio Arts Center in Cross River\, NY\, and Peep Space in Nyack\, NY. In addition to her studio practice\, she teaches workshops. When she’s not making art\, Rebecca loves mountain biking\, snowboarding\, gardening\, and adventuring with her toddler son.
