SUMMARY:Alissa Leigh Pours Herself Into Her Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Talk 1 in the “From Passion to Profit: Local Women Doing What They Love” 6-part series \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlissa Leigh Pours Herself Into Her Paintings \n\n\n\nAlissa Leigh\, a self-taught abstract painter\, resides with her husband and two sons in Bedford\, New York. Her artistic journey began as a young girl as she was influenced by her mother’s style and creativity. Alissa’s energetic paintings are inspired by her upbringing as well her passion for color\, photography\, and the time she spends in her gardens. Using mainly acrylic paints\, she also incorporates oils\, pastels and collage elements in her designs. Through her distinct use of color\, gesture and a visual language that is recognizably her own\, her paintings become powerful focal points in the spaces they inhabit. Her style and design concepts are constantly evolving as she learns new techniques and discovers new inspirations for her color palettes and compositions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the series \n\n\n\nFrom Passion to Profit: Local Women Doing What They Love \n\n\n\nToday’s financial freedom is all about the passion project\, the side hustle you daydream about\, but what does it take to turn that passion into profit? We all have that friend or friend of a friend who’s taken their creativity and found a way to monetize. How’d she get her start? Chances are that she stumbled along the way.  How’d she pick herself up and find her inner shine? What inspires her today and better yet\, what will she achieve tomorrow that can inspire your journey? Wanna know her story?  Join us and find out. \n\n\n\nWe’ll be hearing the inspirational stories of six amazing local women\, Alissa Leigh\, Jenn Streicher\, Deanna Marano\, Tina Villaveces\, Fran Hauser\, and Tia Cibani.  They are doing what they love and supporting others along the way. They will share the mindsets\, practices\, and resources they found helpful throughout their journeys. Here’s your opportunity to learn from\, be inspired by\, and share appreciation for these terrific local women. \n\n\n\nOrganized by Yellow Studio in collaboration with Fran Hauser. We can’t wait to share this space with you! \n\n\n\nParticipants will be invited to join a group slack channel to continue sharing resources and learn from one another: #from-passion-to-profit \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpace is limited. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSeries lineup: \n\n\n\nJenn Streicher is at the Forefront of the Beauty Industry \n\n\n\nTuesday\, March 21 at 6:30pm \n\n\n\nJenn Streicher is one of the beauty industry’s most sought-after makeup artists. SUMMARY:Pop-Up and Breakfast with Hanesie Founder\, Ellie Haney
DESCRIPTION:Mental Health Advocate Ellie Haney is “Here for You.” Join us to hear Ellie’s story and how her message-inspired clothing that promotes mental health awareness came to be. \n\n\n\nWe will also be hosting a Hanesie pop-up shop\, so come to browse and buy comfortable and inspiring crewneck and hoodie sweatshirts in beautiful pastel hues and much more. \n\n\n\n“At the beginning of Covid\, I was graduating from the University of Delaware. My boyfriend broke up with me\, every exciting end of the year plan we had was canceled\, ‘real life’ was supposed to be starting\, and I couldn’t handle it. I needed to find something to keep me going so I jumped on the tie dye trend and fell in love with the dyeing process. My creations soon became the reason why I got out of bed in the morning. I started selling on Instagram and to my surprise\, people loved them. At the same time\, I accepted a corporate job because I thought that’s what I was ‘supposed’ to do. But the way I felt when I was creating my clothing was too overwhelming to just have as a hobby. I knew I was meant for something special. After a lot of brainstorming alongside my astounding team\, we came out with our first line and donated 10% of our sales to a nonprofit for suicide prevention.” Ellie Haney\, Hanesie Founder \n\n\n\nA light breakfast and coffee will be served.

SUMMARY:Unboxing with Lauren: Creating community and connection as you explore what you have\, what you need and what you want.
DESCRIPTION:Book signing and collective and supportive brain dump with local author\, Lauren Schwarzfeld.  \n\n\n\nAs Brené Brown says\, “We don’t have to do it alone. We were never meant to.” \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout Unboxed \n\n\n\nOn paper\, Lauren Schwarzfeld had it all—so why did she feel stuck? Like nothing was wrong\, exactly\, but nothing was truly right\, either? \n\n\n\nIn Unboxed: Essays on Learning to Trust Myself to Stop Doing the Things I Hate\, Schwarzfeld examines the many roads she’s taken—including being a stay-at-home mom\, an accounting professional\, a direct sales representative and a doula—and why none of them felt like “the one.” Schwarzfeld had to wonder: why couldn’t she be happy with what she had? And why\, as she tried to find the answers she was looking for\, did she run into so many people and ideas who wanted to make her feel worse? \n\n\n\nNow\, Schwarzfeld is ready to declare herself the author of her own story—and show her readers how to do the same. She’s the funny\, smart\, caring friend who wants to support you when you’re down but also inspire you to live your best life. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout Lauren \n\n\n\nLauren Schwarzfeld\, best-selling author of Unboxed: Essays on Learning to Trust Myself So I Could Stop Doing the Things I Hate\, is a life coach and writer whose work has also appeared online and in the best-selling anthology The Addiction Diaries. In her coaching practice\, she helps her clients reclaim space in their own lives\, step out of their perceived expectations and learn to trust themselves. Lauren lives in Mount Kisco\, New York with her husband\, three children and two dogs. She is also COO of 914Cares\, a Westchester based non-profit. \n\n\n\nIG: @itseverythinglauren website: www.everythinglauren.com \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nA light breakfast will be served.

SUMMARY:Elevate your Practice: An Artist Coaching Workshop with Susannah Morgan

SUMMARY:Life Perceived Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association first exhibition at Yellow Studio\, Life Perceived. This show features abstract work across numerous media by 26 local women artists. \n\n\n\n“We all experience our surroundings and daily life imbued with our own memories\, manners of thinking and particular preferences. We pick up on different elements as they relate to our senses and our perceptions of color and light. Artists have their own ways of depicting the world around them based on their style\, training and process\, paying special attention to color and form. How do you perceive your world through the lens of abstraction? SUMMARY:Yuko Nishikawa: Aki-Zakura Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the opening of Yuko Nishikawa’s Aki-Zakura at YS. \n\n\n\nAki-Zakura means fall cherry blossoms in Japanese.  \n\n\n\n“Aki-Zakura is an installation of mobiles made with paper pulp clay I formulate from used paper collected from artists and photographers in my Brooklyn studio building. These mobiles are lightweight and airy\, and make slow turns in response to us when we walk by them and stir the air. The rich colors and the oatmeal-cookie like textures are particular to the process I use to make this air dry clay. The colors come directly from the colors of the donated paper\, there are no added paints or pigments. To produce additional colors\, I mix multiple papers the way I would mix paints.” Yuko Nishikawa \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis event runs concurrently with the Yellow Monkey Village Market taking place right outside on the lawn at Yellow Monkey Village. Come for the opening reception and also enjoy checking out the market – 35 local vendors and artisans won’t disappoint. Yellow Studio + The Smokestack will have a table\, come visit us!
