SUMMARY:Nature & Sustainability Club: Ward Pound Ridge Hike & Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Looking to connect with nature and other liked-minded Yellow Studio women? Join the Nature & Sustainability Club for a scenic hike on November 18 at 9:30am followed by mid-morning scones\, provided by 351 Bakery\, and coffee and tea at Yellow Studio. \nWe’ll be heading to Ward Pound Ridge for a group hike\, starting at the Trailside Nature Museum for a cool fall 1.5 mile hike. \nWard Pound Ridge Reservation sprawls across 4\,700 acres of countryside\, making it the largest park in Westchester County. Its landscape offers a diverse terrain\, with everything from deep hollows to towering ridges reaching heights of up to 800 feet. \nWithin the reservation\, you’ll encounter a rich variety of natural features\, including hemlock gorges\, dry uplands\, wetlands\, ponds\, and two winding rivers. We look forward to enjoying the surrounding beauty with each of you. \nFor Yellow Studio Members. Please RSVP.

SUMMARY:Book Club: The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Book Club at Yellow Studio on Tuesday December 3 at 6:30pm to discuss The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. There will be lively discussion\, questions posed and answered and time to connect with fellow YS Members. This is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLight refreshments will be available. \nAbout the book: \n“Welcome to the family\,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant\, manicured hand. I smile politely\, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own… \nEvery day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor. \nI try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes\, so full of pain\, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet\, the fancy car\, the perfect husband. \nI only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside\, it’s far too late. \nBut I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am. \nThey don’t know what I’m capable of… \nAn unbelievably twisty read that will have you glued to the pages late into the night. Anyone who loves The Woman in the Window\, The Wife Between Us and The Girl on the Train won’t be able to put this down! \n  \nAbout Freida McFadden: \n#1 New York Times\, Amazon Charts\, USA Today\, Washington Post\, Wall Street Journal\, Sunday Times\, and Publisher’s Weekly bestselling author Freida McFadden is a physician specializing in brain injury who has penned multiple bestselling psychological thrillers and medical humor novels. Freida’s work has been selected as one of Amazon Editors’ best books of the year\, she is the winner of the International Thriller Writers Award for best paperback\, and she is a Goodreads Choice Award winner. Her novels have been translated into 40 languages. \nFreida lives with her family and cat in a centuries-old three-story home overlooking the ocean\, with staircases that creak and moan with each step\, and nobody could hear you if you scream. Unless you scream really loudly\, maybe.

SUMMARY:Book Club: The Man Who Could Move Clouds by Ingrid Rojas Contreras

There will be lively discussion\, questions posed and answered and time to connect with fellow YS Members. This is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLight refreshments will be available. \nRSVP required. \nThis book is available for purchase at Bedford Books. Only a few copies left! \nLocation: \nBedford Books\n13 Court Road\nBedford\, NY 10506 \n  \nAbout the book: \n\n\nPULITZER PRIZE FINALIST • NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALIST • From the bestselling author of Fruit of the Drunken Tree\, comes a dazzling\, kaleidoscopic memoir reclaiming her family’s otherworldly legacy. A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: TIME\, NPR\, VULTURE\, PEOPLE\, BOSTON GLOBE\, VANITY FAIR\, ESQUIRE\, & MORE. “Rojas Contreras reacquaints herself with her family’s past\, weaving their stories with personal narrative\, unraveling legacies of violence\, machismo and colonialism… In the process\, she has written a spellbinding and genre-defying ancestral history.”—New York Times Book Review For Ingrid Rojas Contreras\, magic runs in the family. Raised amid the political violence of 1980s and ’90s Colombia\, in a house bustling with her mother’s fortune-telling clients\, she was a hard child to surprise. Her maternal grandfather\, Nono\, was a renowned curandero\, a community healer gifted with what the family called “the secrets”: the power to talk to the dead\, tell the future\, treat the sick\, and move the clouds. And as the first woman to inherit “the secrets\,” Rojas Contreras’ mother was just as powerful. Mami delighted in her ability to appear in two places at once\, and she could cast out even the most persistent spirits with nothing more than a glass of water. This legacy had always felt like it belonged to her mother and grandfather\, until\, while living in the U.S. in her twenties\, Rojas Contreras suffered a head injury that left her with amnesia. As she regained partial memory\, her family was excited to tell her that this had happened before: Decades ago Mami had taken a fall that left her with amnesia\, too. And when she recovered\, she had gained access to “the secrets.”In 2012\, spurred by a shared dream among Mami and her sisters\, and her own powerful urge to relearn her family history in the aftermath of her memory loss\, Rojas Contreras joins her mother on a journey to Colombia to disinter Nono’s remains. With Mami as her unpredictable\, stubborn\, and often amusing guide\, Rojas Contreras traces her lineage back to her Indigenous and Spanish roots\, uncovering the violent and rigid colonial narrative that would eventually break her mestizo family into two camps: those who believe “the secrets” are a gift\, and those who are convinced they are a curse.Interweaving family stories more enchanting than those in any novel\, resurrected Colombian history\, and her own deeply personal reckonings with the bounds of reality\, Rojas Contreras writes her way through the incomprehensible and into her inheritance. The result is a luminous testament to the power of storytelling as a healing art and an invitation to embrace the extraordinary.\n\n\n\nAbout Ingrid Rojas Contreras: \nIngrid Rojas Contreras was born and raised in Bogotá\, Colombia. Her first novel Fruit of the Drunken Tree was the silver medal winner in First Fiction from the California Book Awards\, and a New York Times editor’s choice. Her essays and short stories have appeared in the New York Times Magazine\, The Believer\, and Zyzzyva\, among others. She lives in California.

SUMMARY:Opening: Lost and Found featuring Carol Bouyoucos and Tina Scepanovic
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Yellow Studio presents “Lost and Found\,” a dynamic two-person exhibition featuring artists Carol Bouyoucos and Tina Scepanovic. On view February 15 to March 14\, this thoughtfully curated show explores the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and technological innovation\, as the artists move in opposite yet complementary directions; one mining the richness of historical techniques\, the other pioneering new digital territories. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday February 22 from 4 to 6pm. \nThrough this compelling pairing\, Scepanovic resurrects traditional processes and forgotten materials\, working with centuries-old water gilding techniques and transforming vintage glass to create contemporary meaning from the past. In contrast\, Bouyoucos pushes into future realms through post-photographic explorations\, employing artificial intelligence and digital tools to reshape our visual understanding of the natural world. Together\, their works demonstrate how contemporary art can simultaneously honor historical methods while embracing emerging technologies\, creating a rich dialogue between what is lost to time and what is found through innovation. \nView a selection of artwork images from the exhibition here. \nAll are welcome at the opening reception. RSVPs strongly encouraged.  \n  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nCarol Bouyoucos is a contemporary American artist exploring the intersection between nature and technology. Her digital photographic works evoke the romanticism and nostalgia of nineteenth-century painting\, though created with distinctly 21st-century tools. Based at Meadowside Cottage at the Marsh Sanctuary in Mount Kisco\, NY\, Bouyoucos has exhibited her work internationally and is actively involved in local art communities\, museums\, and the Bedford Garden Club. She holds a BFA from The University of Michigan’s School of Art and Design. For more information\, visit her website here.  \nTina Scepanovic is a Chinese American artist known for innovative fusion of historical techniques with contemporary design. Drawing from her background in furniture restoration\, she transforms vintage materials and employs traditional processes like Renaissance-era water gilding in her sculptures and installations. Trained at the Isabel O’Neil Studio in NYC and under master gilder Charles Douglas\, Scepanovic’s work has been exhibited at prestigious venues including Salon Art + Design and The Painting Center\, featured in the New York Times\, and collected internationally. For more information\, visit her website here.  \n

SUMMARY:Book Club: Sweet Fury by Sash Bischoff
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Book Club at Bedford Books on Tuesday February 25 at 6:30pm to discuss Sweet Fury by Sash Bischoff. There will be lively discussion\, questions posed and answered and time to connect with fellow YS Members. This is a zero pressure book club – didn’t quite finish the book? Come anyway. \nAnnouncement! We will have a very special guest at Book Club\, the author herself: Sash Bischoff!  \nHosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard \nLight refreshments will be available. \nYS Member RSVP required. \nThis book is available for purchase at Bedford Books.  \nLocation: \nBedford Books\n13 Court Road\nBedford\, NY 10506 \n  \nAbout the book: \n\n\nWhen a beloved actress is cast in a feminist adaptation of a Fitzgerald classic\, she finds herself the victim in a deadly game of revenge in which everyone\, on screen and off\, is playing a part. \n“Cunningly ambitious\, twisty\, and immersive\, it seduces you into a story so compelling that you aren’t ready for the sucker-punch of its deeper truths. This is a hell of a debut.” —Rebecca Makkai\n\n\nLila Crayne is America’s sweetheart: she’s generous and kind\, gorgeous and magnetic. She and her fiancé\, visionary filmmaker Kurt Royall\, have settled into a stunning new West Village apartment and are set to begin filming their feminist adaptation of Fitzgerald’s Tender Is the Night.\n\n\nTo prepare for the leading role\, Lila begins working with charming and accomplished therapist Jonah Gabriel to dig into the trauma of her past. Soon\, Lila’s impeccably manicured life begins to unravel on the therapy couch—and Jonah is just the man to pick up the pieces. But everyone has a secret\, and no one is quite who they seem.\n\n\nA twisty\, thought-provoking novel of construction and deconstruction in conversation with the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald and told through the lens of the film industry\, Sweet Fury is an incisive and bold critique of America’s deep-rooted misogyny. With this novel\, Bischoff examines the narratives we tell ourselves\, and what happens when we co-opt others into those stories; and she probes the blurred lines between victim and perpetrator and the true meaning of justice.\n  \n\n\n\nAbout the Author: \nSash Bischoff is a writer and theater director. She has written plays that have been developed at theaters throughout the US. As a director\, she has worked on Broadway and off. Broadway/National Tours include Dear Evan Hansen\, The Visit\, On the Town\, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying\, and Shrek. Sash grew up as an actor and won the National Arts Award (NFAA) for Acting. She currently lives in New York with her husband and their many pets. Sweet Fury is her first novel.
