Collage and Painting Workshop with Kelly Duffield
November 29, 2023 @ 10:00 am
$40.00 – $50.00Join artist Kelly Duffield for a workshop that puts your imagination to the test. In this experimental session, you will create artwork using gouache and collage. Gouache is a water-based paint used to paint opaque, matte surfaces. You will creatively merge painting with archival collage techniques to make narrative artworks on paper. Experimentation will be encouraged with an emphasis on the use of collage as a tool for composition, as well as for finding the narrative. The workshop is designed for beginners as well as more experienced artists who want to explore with collage and painting (and learn archival collage technique).
All materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring collage materials (printed materials, like magazines and catalogues, textiles, etc.).
The first hour of this workshop will be instruction. Stay for an hour or two more to experiment with the materials and create an artwork.
Coffee and light bites will be provided.
Limited to 8 attendees.
About Kelly Duffield
Shifting between works on paper and gouache paintings on linen, Duffield examines complexities and vulnerabilities within homelife, meditating on the domestic and the interplay of parent, child, children, spouse, pets, possessions, responsibilities and creativity. Her work results in scenes that are often strange, surreal and sufficiently ambiguous to evoke the viewer’s imagined or projected meanings.
Duffield has had solo exhibitions at Themes + Projects, Minnesota Street Project (San Francisco, CA), Naropa University (Boulder, CO) and 15th Street Gallery (Boulder, CO). She has also been in numerous group exhibitions including shows at Seidel City (Boulder, CO), Redline Contemporary Art Center (Denver, CO), Barrett Art Center (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Site:Brooklyn Gallery (Brooklyn, NY). She holds a BFA in Art and a BA in Art History from Oklahoma State University and completed an apprenticeship in printmaking at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE), NY. She is represented by Themes+Projects, Minnesota Street Project (San Francisco, CA).
