Book Club
The Yellow Studio Book Club, led by Emily Winograd Leonard and Fran Hauser, meets monthly at Bedford Books. We read across all genres—from literary fiction and thrillers to memoir—so there’s always something new and exciting to explore. Sometimes, we even get lucky and have the author join us! It’s a wonderful way to discover books you might not pick up on your own and to be part of a community that loves connecting over reading.
Fran Hauser
Fran Hauser is a bestselling author, keynote speaker, champion of women in the workplace, and a LinkedIn Top Voice. She has spoken at over 200 organizations and authored two books, The Myth of the Nice Girl and Embrace the Work, Love Your Career, that have been hailed as modern-day bibles for professional women. Inspired by the impact of her books and the process of bringing them to life, Fran launched Bookbound, a podcast for nonfiction writers, which she co-hosts with friend and literary agent Bethany Saltman. In December 2024, Fran combined her passion for storytelling and community-building by opening Bedford Books, the first-ever bookstore in her hometown of Bedford, NY. As a former Fortune 500 executive and active start-up investor, who has funded over 40 female-founded companies, Fran’s insights have appeared in media outlets including Fortune, CNBC, Fast Company, Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, and Business Insider.
Emily Winograd Leonard
Emily Winograd Leonard is an avid reader, always keeping a book on her nightstand while listening to it on Libro.fm during her commutes to New York City. Emily is a lawyer and adjunct professor, with experience in public defense and police oversight.
She is deeply engaged in her local community, serving as a board member for the Westchester Youth Alliance, a youth leadership organization, and as a board director for ConnectED, a PTO supporting students with diverse learning needs and abilities in the Bedford Central School District. She is also a chair of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association Criminal Law Committee. Emily cherishes our monthly book club meetings, enforcing only one rule: Come, even if you didn’t read the book! She lives in Bedford with her husband, two children, and their dog.
