Elizabeth Edler

Elizabeth currently works with acrylics, implementing a style of abstract expressionism. Transitioning from previous, more literal work with oil paints, she uses a layering process, creating depth and allowing each layer to inform the next. Her work has developed over the years as something of a life metaphor in which particular, or limited, outlooks have transitioned now into broadly interpretative perspectives.

Elizabeth studied art at Skidmore College and the Maine College of Art and has participated in juried gallery shows in Coastal Maine locations and in Maryland’s greater Baltimore area. She is the former editor of community newspapers and has published books, plays, essays, and verse collections including, among the books, Watching A River Freeze: Selections from Coastal Maine, and Who Are We Anyway, a memoir. Elizabeth has also taught English and coached creative writing at the high-school level. Her art extends as well to ballroom and partner dance traditions.
