Beginner’s Gilding Workshop with Alessandra Maria Peters
February 27 @ 6:30 pm
$100.00 – $125.00
Dive into the art of gilding, an age-old technique used to embellish paper and canvas artworks with a 23 karat gold leaf. This workshop is tailored for beginners, offering a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of gilding using water-based adhesives. Feel free to bring a small artwork you’ve been interested in applying gold leaf to, or create a piece from scratch in class.
What You’ll Learn:
- Materials and Tools: Get acquainted with essential gilding materials including different types of leaf metals (like gold and silver leaf), brushes, and burnishing tools.
- Water-Based Mordants: Focus on using water-based adhesives, which are more flexible than oil-based options, and thus ideal for canvas and paper.
- Application Techniques: Practice applying metal leaf to your surface, exploring both traditional and experimental methods.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own gilded artwork on paper or canvas and gained the knowledge to continue exploring gilding in your future projects.
Limited to 10 attendees.
