Book Club: Good Things by Samin Nosrat

Join us at the home of Rebecca Rivard in Bedford Hills on Tuesday July 28 at 6:30pm for an evening inspired by Samin Nosrat’s newest book, Good Things. This delightful new cookbook is a warm and generous collection of the recipes Samin loves most, the ones she turns to for herself and for the people she cares about.
As Samin writes, “A written recipe is just a shimmering decoy for the true inheritance: the thread of connection that cooking it will unspool.” In that spirit, we’re gathering not just to discuss a book, but to share a table.
Here’s how it works: Each attendee is invited to make a recipe from Good Things to bring and share with the group. It can be something simple, something ambitious, or something that simply caught your eye. There are no wrong choices. (And if you don’t enjoy cooking, leave that to the folks who do!) Please use this spreadsheet to let the group know what you are bringing.
We’ll come together to eat, talk, and do exactly what the book asks of us: cook for one another.
Hosted by Fran Hauser & Emily Winograd Leonard
Member RSVP required.
Bedford Hills address to be shared after RSVPs are collected.
This book is available for purchase at Bedford Books! You can also purchase the book online here and have it shipped to you.
Good Things is an essential, joyful guide to cooking and living, whether you’re looking for a comforting tomato soup to console a struggling friend, seeking a deeper sense of connection in your life, or hosting a dinner for ten in your too-small dining room. Here you’ll find go-to recipes for ricotta custard pancakes, a showstopping roast chicken burnished with saffron, a crunchy, tingly Calabrian chili crisp, super-chewy sky-high focaccia, and a decades-in-the-making, childhood-evoking yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Along the way, you’ll also find plenty of tips, techniques, and lessons, from how to buy olive oil (check the harvest date) to when to splurge (salad dressing is where you want to use your best ingredients) to the best uses for your pressure cooker (chicken stock and dulce de leche, naturally).
Good Things captures, with Samin’s trademark blend of warmth, creativity, and precision, what has made cooking such an important source of delight and comfort in her life.
