Cast On: A Beginner’s Knitting Experience with Karen Lerner of 333Knits
Ready to transform yarn into something amazing?
Join Karen Lerner of 333Knits for a cozy, hands-on journey into the wonderful world of knitting! Whether you’ve never touched a knitting needle or tried once years ago, this workshop is your perfect starting point.
Over three carefully designed sessions (February 4, February 11 and March 4), you’ll learn everything you need to create your very first knitted hat—from casting on your first stitch to closing the crown of your finished masterpiece. Karen will guide you through the fundamentals with patience, humor, and plenty of encouragement, making sure no one gets left in a tangle!
What You’ll Learn:
- Casting on
- The essential knit stitch
- Reading a simple pattern
- Troubleshooting common mistakes (we all make them!)
- Finishing techniques to complete your hat
What’s Included: Everything you need is provided—your yarn, knitting needles, and a beginner-friendly hat pattern are all part of your $130 workshop fee. All materials provided by Pick Up Every Stitch located in Mt. Kisco, NY. Just bring yourself and a willingness to learn!
Schedule:
- Week 1: Wednesday, February 4, 7 to 8pm
- Week 2: Wednesday, February 11, 7 to 8pm
- Week 3: Wednesday, March 4, 7 to 8pm
This thoughtfully spaced schedule gives you time to practice between sessions and come back with questions. By your final class, you’ll be proudly wearing (or gifting!) your handmade hat and ready to tackle your next project.

About Karen
Following a diverse career in economic development with non-profits and financial trading, Karen Lerner founded 333Knits to dedicate herself entirely to the art of knitting. Her practice is deeply influenced by her training as a Reiki practitioner, allowing her to approach each piece with intentional energy work. She believes that the positive energy she channels into every stitch creates garments that carry healing and comfort to those who wear them.

For us, that means providing everything that lovers of knitting and crocheting love: working with independent companies that offer gorgeous colors, a sense of craft and inspiring originality; carrying yarns that appeal to our fingers and our creativity; and creating the kind of place (offline!), where we can learn from each other, hang out and knit a community that keeps us real.
We are located at 200 Main Street in Mt. Kisco, NY, in the municipal lot behind Lefteris, off Dakin Ave. Our fiber enthusiasts come from all over, including Westchester, Hudson Valley, Rockland County, the 5 Boroughs, and Southern Connecticut. We hope you enjoy visiting this Westchester yarn shop.
